If Posey catches the ball and Cousins slides, he is out by a mile. Im sorry if this next sentence offends anyone......but anyone who thinks this was a dirty/unnecessary play has either never played baseball, or doesnt have a fundamental understanding of how the game is played.

!+#+ happens. It is unfortunate, but what more can you say?

People play hard, old school baseball. I was involved in games where we brawled for less. Much less.

I'm not calling Cousins a bad person, and it is unfortunate that Buster broke his leg. What I will tell you, however, is that none of us have the right to tell anyone in the Giants family to get over it. Whether you agree with the play or not, your team is your family, and if someone hurts my brother, I will stand up for him, just like he will for me.

Sabean is standing up for his guy. The Giants locker room is fired up, I promise you. That is a team.

I suspect the Giants won't get over it, and I don't want them to. I want them to carry that play with them for the rest of the season. Every win, for Posey, from here on out.

Agree with both of these.

Obviously we are all upset about the Posey play but I'm tired of the crying and complaining about whether it was dirty or not.

This story is clouding the fact that this team continues to show heart and resilience after numerous injuries to key players. First Torres, then Sandoval and after those two were out for a significant time we played our best ball that bolted us to the top of the division. Now after Buster's injury we looked dead after the Milwaukee series then come into St. Louis against the number one offense and we take 3/4 (should have been a sweep if not for the bullpen) and out-hit the Cardinals with 2 very spirited comebacks the last 2 games of the series. Player after player continues to fill the void when an injury occurs, although it may not be pretty as we all know, they continue to get the job done with a very sub-par lineup.

so tired of this story.

if it was whiteside or any other non-star catcher, this wouldnt even be that big of a deal.
Sabean done goof'd though

While I agree with you, Sabean is an idiot for making those comments on talk radio.  There are simply some things that must be kept in house.  Sabean needs to realize that he is held in higher regard by the media because he is a front office executive, not a player.  While GM's are well connected with the players on the field, they must keep their composure in front of the media.

Sabean is standing up for his guy?  By doing what exactly, going on talk radio

.  There are different ways to stand up for a person, doing what Sabean did is just a bonehead move that caught the eye of MLB officials.

Play wasn't dirty at all.  Cousins reacted to Poseys intent on blocking the plate.  I've said it before, the Giants should really consider moving Posey.  Catcher is a grueling position, and not a place for a franchise player.  Look at Minnesota and Joe Mauer.

I understand it was emotion but I mean the guy probably praised JT Snow for trying to kill Pudge way back when

Catchers nowadays seem to not catch the ball first but try to plant themselves and dig in before the ball arrives.

I disagree with moving them though. Catcher can be a franchise position from Yogi to Bench to Piazza to now Santana/Weiters/Posey/Mauer. There is special value with big hitting catchers behind the plate. The value doesn't carry over to first base because most of em don't carry 1B type of #'s. You'd basically be putting a liability behind the plate because they're not worth as much as your "star" catcher, putting the star at 1st and then taking out the difference between what the catcher/1B would put up and what a typical 1B produces. It seems confusing but it does make sense.

Catching comes with risks, everyone knows that. Just gotta figure out proper rest, what days to 1B/DH the catcher, etc. It's an extremely tough situation now to be in.

The only way I would advocate moving Posey is if he was able to play SS or 2B at the Major League level.

Putting Posey anywhere but catcher, short or second COMPLETELY devalues him. The reason people see him as this up and coming superstar is because he is a catcher. If he becomes a first baseman, you have another Billy Butler on your team.  Not that Billy Butler is bad.  He just is a below average first baseman.

If he is one of the three positions I listed, he is one of the best hitters in the game at that position. And THAT is what makes him valuable and our "franchise" player.

How so?

.300+ hitter, good k/bb ratio, could hit with pop (25-30hr).  He has more pop than Butler, who knows maybe the Giants can push him to the squat rack since his legs wont be shot from squatting for 7+ innings every night.

It isn't the early 2000's anymore.  A 1st baseman that can hit 25-30 hr's while hitting .315+ is a superstar.  You know only 8 first baseman hit over 30 hr's last year right?  Only four of those hit over .300 (Pujols, Cabrera, Votto, Konerko) and only two hit above .315 (Cabrera, Votto).

Catcher is a grunt position, and no place for a "Superstar", plus without the addition of the assistance Ivan Rodriguez and Mike Piazza received, your career is cut short because knees wear out.

The Twins have Justin Morneau at 1st, the Giants don't have anyone at 1st.

Who's going tomorrow for the Cody Ross Bobblehead giveaway??? Debating on what time I should leave the house. Yo Tim Lincecum, what time you heading out??

I saw that it's supposed to rain. I hope not by much. It said it was supposed to rain today, but it's pretty much ok right now. (I work near across the street from Gordan Biersch)
