In mythology, the Phoenix is a mighty, long lived bird that has a cyclical cycle of life and death. The phoenix dies in a show of flames and combustion. It obtains a new life by rising from the ashes of it's predecessor.
The Knicks had the worst record in franchise history last year. The Garden was burning. The Knicks were burning. But this was necessary ... to rid ourselves of our sins, to rinse our wings of Shved and Smith, Shumpert and Stoudemire. And Bargnani. It was a collective intake of all Karma, good and bad, thrown into a steel cauldron of tears, forged by Phil Jackson the sage, stirred by Derek Fisher, his dimwitted disciple.
So the garden burned. The knicks burned. The good people of New York did not know whether the prophecy would come true. There were rumblings of a possible spark seen in the pile of grey. There were flickers of life.
A figure was starting to appear. Could it be that the prophecy was being fulfilled?
