How some of y'all can actually root for the Nets if the Knicks are out is beyond me

Then they traded for Kidd and he took the exact same team to the finals. Presto change-o

This Starbury narrative is really silly. The Nets team Marbury led in 2001 was vastly different from the Nets team that Kidd took to the Finals in 2002. The only FOUR players that rolled over from 2000-01 to 01-02 were Luscious Harris, Kenyon Martin (who was a Rookie in 01), Aaron Williams and Keith Van Horn. But keep telling yourselves they were the EXACT same teams.

Richard Jefferson, Todd McCallough, and Jason Collins, who were all rotation players came in that season with Jason Kidd. Not to mention White Mamba! :smokin

Kerry Kittles another important part of that back to back Finals team didn't even play the last Marbury led season because he was recovering from knee surgery

Point taken.

The new rotation guys you mentioned all had a combined experience of 2 years experience. In terms of rotation players, Marbury did have the same rotation players and starters. KVH, Kmart, Aaron Williams (who came to life with J Kidd), Lucious Harris were all on the same squad as Marbury, and when you swapped PG's these teams were vastly different. The rest of the players that filled out the bench were important, but not regular rotation players. That's why when people say "basically" the same team, this is what they look at.

2001 Nets
Stephon Marbury: Doug Overton
Lucious Harris: Kendall Gill
Keith Van Horn: Johnny Newman
Kenyon Martin: Jamie Feick
Evan Eschmeyer: Aaron Williams

2002 Nets
Jason Kidd: Anthony Johnson
Kerry Kittles: Lucious Harris
Keith Van Horn: Richard Jefferson
Kenyon Martin: Aaron Williams
Todd MacCulloch: Jason Collins

That's not basically the same team up there. Lucious Harris' "resurgence" was more a factor of his production looking better coming off of the bench rather than being a starter because his numbers are basically identical across the board. Don't downplay those rookie additions because Jefferson and Collins were then starters on the 2003 team that went back to the Finals. All I'm saying is the team makeup and setup weren't similar at all.

Meh, wouldn't have made much of a difference anyway unless he was fired two weeks into the season.
