Alright, so I like to think I am pretty tech savvy when it comes to computers and I'm officially stumped. I can't find this on Google anywhere..I'm sure it's probably just a driver issue, but, well here's the situation. My computer was acting @%*@%+ for a long long time. I don't knowwhat happened to it, but it became unbearably slow. I did some registry cleanups and what not cause it kept BSODing and then finally there came a winload32.execorrupted file error and it wouldn't boot up anymore. After that incident, I decided to upgrade to Windows 7. Got my disc in the other day and finally gotaround to installing it. It installed fine and now I'm running Windows 7 64bit. My comp is a little old, but I mean it gets the job done. AMD Athlon 64Dual Core @ 2.1ghz, 2gb of ram, etc. etc. It's not all that bad. I can find the MOBO model later if it would help. Anyways, so with a fresh install, I havea Wireless network adapter because I live in an apartment and I don't want to run an ethernet cord all the way to my room. So all my wireless networkdrivers are gone so I can't really access the internet, thank god for my laptop (osx ftw). I find a disc that should have my wireless adapter drivers on itand try to run it. Upon doing so, the status bar of the cd loading (noted at the top search bar going green) takes FOREVER to go anywhere. It eventually moves, but moves quite slow and it NEVER gets to the end. Basically to sum everything up, after installing Windows 7 my CD/DVD drive does not read ANY of my discs. Mydrive is recognized by Windows 7, it just doesn't load any discs. And these are good discs btw, they load up fine in any other computer and my laptop. Withmy PC it just hangs at the very end and is very annoying cause I just want to get my internet running on it.. I was thinking about playing games but Iobviously won't be able to if it cannot read any CDs/DVDs Any suggestions? Sucks that I don't have a flash drive or anything or else I'd just getthe drivers that I need over on there that way, but until then I need to see if I can get my DVD drive working.

Set up your laptop as a hub and use it to connect your PC to the internet. Make sure it has the latest service pack updates.

Make sure your version supports UDF. i don't imagine why it woudn't, but who knows.

other than that, since you said your computers old, you might just need to upgrade the drive.

*kanye shrug*

@jdizzle, i had paragraph breaks in that #*$% but they didn't show up, smh.
@sn00pee, i only have he 64bit version, I'm not gonna spring for the 32bit version when I hardly use the computer.
@sol, nice, I totally forgot about using my computer as a hub, good looks. And even if the computer is old, it used the drive fine before. I mean, my firstdrive fried out, so I replaced it with the one I am currently using and it has worked for me fine until after this installation.

Get a new drive , cause if its just hanging the laser has gone bad

You probably just need to reinstall the proper drivers. Go to your cpu manufacturer's support page and check for the original driver they installed foryour dvd/cd drive. If it worked on an older version of windows its almost guaranteed to work on windows 7. When I upgraded the windows 7 I had to reinstall agang of OG drivers. Got everything back working how it was though.

So, this is really weird. Before I had two sata drives hooked up, one as my master with the OS on it and the other with some other files (strictly files, jpegs, mp3s, etc.) on it. Some reason it got disconnected on accident and when I booted up, my disc drive now works. Is there any reason why my HDD and my Discdrive would not work at the same time?

I do not have a faulty disc drive and it's working so I don't need drivers..hrm

It might be having trouble mounting multiple drives. Was your PC 32bit BEFORE the Win7 upgrade? If you went from 32bit Windows xP/Vista to 64bit then thatmight explain it. Otherwise, you could try a force mount, although I can't guarantee that will end well.

I actually did go from 32bit Windows XP to 64bit Windows 7.
Anyways, I ended up hooking my computer up and connecting them via ethernet cable so I could create a share folder and drop stuff off in there..Got my internetdriver and what not which is nice.

Funny thing is, after I checked my connections to make sure everything was properly plugged in, restarted my computer again, both of my HDDs show up and mydisc drive now works...weird.

Problem solved for now boys, thanks.
