NIKE METCON THREAD - 7s out now

Noah also was first down the rope in 2014 and got "no repped" which arguably cost him a shot at the podium.. Weight hurt him last year but won't this year..

I see Fraser going 1 and Noah going 2... Love to see Ben Smith on the podium but don't see it happen.. Panchik fought from behind in the regionals and it wasn't until the final event that he placed first. Not sure if he even won an event? Maybe someone can clarify..

My guys are Elijah Muhammad and Nick Urankar.. If either one of those guys make it on the podium it would make for a great CF Games for me to watch

Who's going anyways? A few people from my box are heading down there.

can yall make sure to rep NT at the games please?

this article is a huge example as to why people perceive crossfit as a joke.

straight cult/sheepism

my favorite:

Where was Nike when we needed soldiers?

That article from Eat To Perform is total nonsense. Nike puts up one ad online calling out Reebok and all of their affiliates start to freak out. It would be one thing if a Nike athlete threatened to not compete if they can't wear Metcons, but, to my knowledge, that hasn't happened. Not only was the "article" poorly researched, he did a fantastic job calling out not only Nike but everyone who wears Metcons. I'm sure some people who wear the swoosh, and also pay for his service, were really happy to see that.

wait what service does he have?

Beyond the ebooks they also have a forum you can pay to join for meal plans, weight loss challenges, coaching advice, etc.

Khalipa and Web are definitely respected in the community, as they should be. Of course the early adopters are going to protect their own, and I understand that, but, even for them, the introduction of the metcon is going to force Reebok to be better. It's a win win.

Truth be told, I wasn't a huge fan of how the nanos looked when I started CrossFit last year, but I bought a pair and they performed well across the board (other than runs of any distance). If Nike hadn't entered the market I'd be sporting 4.0 or 5.0s.

nike did the same thing with skateboarding. they waited for the market to prove itself and then jumped in. there were and still are tons of people who hate the fact that nike got into skateboarding. they sign some of the top skaters and watch the fans follow.

Nike has the money/connections/athletes to force their way into the market and possibly take over. love it or hate it, Nike is getting into crossfit

Isn't reeboks contract with crossfit up in a couple of years? I wouldn't be surprised if Nike took over.

I remember this. Nike tried to flash its money at the skateboard industry and totally got black balled by every skater out there. It wasn't until a few years after the first failed attempt Nike tried a different approach and the SB line was born.

Too bad Julie Foucher got hurt, I thought she had a legit shot of winning it this year!

Eat To Perform is sponsored by Reebok.  Jason Khalipa is sponsored by Reebok.  Web Smith had a meeting with Nike last year and used them as leverage to get more money for Rich Froning in his Reebok deal.  When the only people who are defending the Reebok name are guys who depend on them for finances to support their families it sorta says something about your 'fight'...

Don't think Nike wants that level of sponsorship where they call it Nike CF. CF is still young and full of controversy in the fitness world. Countless of people are getting hurt, boxes come up with unsafe WODs, and some coaches aren't cut out to coach. If you follow HQ's instagram, they even like to post racy, controversial, and political photos just to stir the pot and rile people up. CF as an enterprise, and in general, just needs to mature and keep improving what they got. I do like how Nike threw their hat in the ring for competition and hope Adidas does so to so we can see more CF gear.

That reminds me of this tweet from the other day. I lol'd

I like Khalipa. He worked out at my box several times and is a nice guy. He's just a company man with a company answer. Any Nike athlete would say the same thing.

As said above, If you are getting paid to wear a particular brand be it Nike, Reebok, Under Armour, Inov-8 or whoever, you are going to back them up. No way you will jeopardise your deal buy saying something different. Same goes for all sports.

That article is ridiculous but it is clickbait for the dudes' website more than anything else.

CrossFit is going to have to face the fact that as it grows, the bigger players in the sportswear industry will get involved (surely a good thing?!).
I can foresee a situation once the Reebok deal is over similar to what we have in the NBA or NFL where there is an official apparel supplier (probably will still be Reebok), and the athletes have their own separate deals for shoes.

That would make the most sense to me but what do I know!

I don't even see Crossfit growing beyond where it is now. If anything it is currently at it's peak. Nike got in while the getting is good, as they say.

Reebok seems to be salty because it was their thing. Nike could come in and take it over and leave reebok in the dust. Back to retroing Shaqs and Shawn Kemps and trying to reintroduce the reebok pump anyway they can. Nike has been in the "lifting shoe" game for a bit so i don't see this as a real reach for them.

I just hope both companies continue to compete in the market of "all around lifting shoes". I have never crossfitted a day in my life nor do i plan on it but i have 2 pairs of metcons and am really happy with them from squats to deadlifts to light running to some box jumps, lunges, overhead press etc. They have been incredibly solid.
