Nike Kobe 9 Protro

Mmmmm I'm returning my pair... A lot of toe room for me but less width (curse my fat foot) prob because of the react soles being a little thicker than the OG lunarlon. Also feels hard to get into with the react soles having that pattern that the GT Cut 1s had. My socks are getting absolutely snagged onto them. It felt way easier to get into the OGs.

Yeah same here! I went TTS in both the OG’s and these. I literally had to pull my sock tight as I put them on to avoid that bunching problem. I did notice once I walked in them the react foam did start to break in pretty quick, and allowed my foot to feel way more comfortable width wise too.

Hmmm. Maybe I'll try to break it in. Maybe I'm giving up too soon lol... Just don't like breaking in shoes anymore.
Edit: I gave up lol returning them. I would need a 13.5 in these. Just put on my sz 14 6s and they felt way better lmao.

Huh, interesting. The OGs pattern always catches my socks worse than these and I don’t like the way the insoles feel as much as the Protros once I have them on OK and actually walk in them. It’s like I can feel that pattern on the insoles when walking in the OGs but not in the new ones.

Does anyone need a size 10? I bought a 9.5 and a 10 on SNKRS. I’m keeping the 9.5. Does anyone want them for the $259.20 I payed plus shipping? If not I’m just returning them to Nike.

Just got mine in. They don’t compare to the OG. 7/10 in execution. Makes you appreciate how much effort went into the OG.
Sometimes you can’t get that old feeling back.

With the timing of this release, I’m happy to have a shoe I wasn’t able to obtain the 10+ years ago. It’s kind of quirky how Nike has chosen the route they have with the Bred which has always been a semi high production shoe (we know they’ve played games previously). So for me in this light, I’m happy to have a win.

I agree with this 100%. I was only able to get my hands on an OG pair 2 years ago. Wasn’t close to securing it at launch. Beat the hell out of the inspirations on court instead. So to that end, definitely. Felt the same about the 81 Kobe 1’s.

That being said, same thing with the protro 1’s, the materials and craftsmanship weren’t up to snuff with the OGs. I remember being blown away by the attention to detail and quality of the OG 1’s. Didn’t feel the same with the protros. It is what it is though. Annoying that Nike could do better (especially when charging more) and they deliberately make the product worse.

I think you're putting OG 1's on a pedestal they don't belong. They wrinkled and aged horribly.

The protro was also better for performance with the cushioning set up.

I was very happy with the protro 1 on court. Not sure any of the subsequent protros have fully lived up to that standard.

Protro 1 was very similar to the OG in build and performance. I wouldn't say better but just as good.

Well, in my very humble, opinion. The protros aren't THAT bad lol.
Some of the changes could be deliberate for performance purposes.

Proto's are a solid recreation.

I definitely prefer the white swoosh, but everything else is fine to me.

We're never going to get a 1:1 recreation from Nike, they could've done these WAY worse, :lol

The fit is better on the Proto's for me and the knit variation I got is a lot nicer, lucked out there.

I don't get the hype for the Kobe 1. They are decent hoop shoe at best

Kobe 1 was solid. the cushioning and traction were top tier, but the lacing system was weak. couldn't get a good lockdown fit. and the shoe rode a little high for my taste. the best part was the value. both og and protro were available on sale when they came out. paid 40 bucks back in the day for the og and 100 bucks for 81pt.

Protro 1s are still till this day my favorite Protro'd model. The rest have been like JV-Tros. Nothing "pro" about them.

My pair just arrived and here’s some of my initial thoughts. The protros fit way more snug than the OG Christmas pair I have. The toe box on the Christmas is way wider but I much prefer the fit of the protros in comparison. They feel more like the 9 elite low that was super snug. I’m a narrow footer though so that’s probably why. Idk what’s going on with the shape in that last picture but the protro look like a whole *** banana 😂

One thing I’m interested in seeing is how they fit during pickup runs. I had this weird uncommon issue with the OGs that would affect me so much I had to shelve them. For some reason with the OG at the highest part where the carbon fiber comes up on the heel, that specific area used to cut up my ankles on both sides and on both feet. When I feel inside the Christmas pair you can feel that carbon fiber piece just poking out which feels extremely sharp. On the protro I don’t experience that currently when I place my finger at those spots. These would have been my favorite bball shoes of all time if not for that issue so I’m hoping the protros work out for me.

that's what threw me off from the Kobe 1's, the fit. Plus I got heel slippage and there's no way to runner's knot it. Used it for light runs only. For the pricing, that was before Kobe's tragic passing. The Kobe 5 Protro Chaos didn't sell for much in the after market. Some Kobe 4 Protro's were discounted also

Got my pair in yesterday, these will be going straight to the court hopefully later today or tomorrow morning. Have been walking around the house trying to break em in, with the React cushion setup these pretty much remind me of the 8 Protros but with slightly restrictive material around the ankles.

Don’t have the sock issue as bad in these like how I do in the 8’s… trade off of course is that these aren’t nearly as easy to put on.

Overall I’m pleased to finally own a pair of MP’s, I don’t really mind the differences all that much.
