Nike Greater Than Series (Cut/Run/Jump)

So he’s blaming the shoes for his injury lol

not necessarily but talking with my trainer about it and he said it definitely could have been part of the reason. he mentioned the same points after looking at the shoe regarding the foot having to do more work in a set up like this vs a traditional shoe. gonna speak to my friend that was one of the engineers for the gt cut this week and get his thoughts on the subject

That’s why I highly recommend orthotics. You can get solid drop-in orthos/insoles for like 50 bucks and it will save you from a ton of foot/ankle issues.

it wasn't specifically about drop in insoles on nikes, but it was a medical site talking about basketball players and their shoes causing plantar fasciitis. it was pretty much saying shoes without a firm midsole, or thick insoles vs a traditional midsole will cause the foot to take more load instead of the shoe which can lead to plantar fascia injuries/tears
Sorry to hear bro 😞
That hits me- I’m traumatized by plantar fasciitis. I had it in college off and on, mostly got thru it over time and help of some $20 dr scholls orthotics. Then when I was 32-35ish, I had the PF from hell that simply wouldn’t go away. I probably did research almost daily man. I did almost everything to get rid of it short of PF surgery which I’m sure you’ve read is not considered a smart solution and half the time won’t work anyway. Even paid like $2k for a stem cell injection which didn’t work. Footwear plays a HUGE part. At the time my every day go to hoop shoes were Lebron 10 elites - tanks, loved those things, and yeah they sat very high off the ground which was a bad thing for me and PF. Long story short, a ton of stretching, a ton of foot strengthening, teaching my foot how to be barefoot, and the right footwear (zero heel drop, Altra shoes for daily work shoes) got me thru it. Lebron 10s were my mains but I did play in Kobe 8s also (drop in mid soles)

Anyway can you send me or post the article you’re referencing? Curious to read that

Also orthotics can solve PF issues sometimes but other times it ends up masking the issue whereas the true solution is in strengthening the foot, and orthotics can serve as a crutch to prevent the true strengthening needed. But other times orthotics take the stress off the fascia when needed to allow it to heal- so it’s kind of case by case IMO. That goes for pre made orthos or custom made

Anyone have some foot strengthening recs? Bottoms of mine have been feeling almost bruised from hoops, walking around this summer at water parks, etc.

Orthotics in the cuts would be tougher to me because of the current insole setup. I’ve used powerstep by protech in the past…

I had a lot of achilles tendonitis when I was younger because my soleus and calves were always tight. Never stretched before ball loooool. Now I'm feelin this weird off center medial side pain on my heel that might also be tendonitis from jumping back into ball without a full stretch last month for the first time since last summer.

Haven’t been this geeked about a Nike basketball shoe since the Kobe 8. But these cuts are IT! Soon as I dropped my foot in them it felt like they could’ve easily been a Bean shoe. Instant comfort with little break-in time needed. Salty I slept on the OG black pair. Can’t wait for the Volts. In on the EYBL, if they release to the general public. Might pass on the Floridian pair. That swoosh is dope, but I’m not sure I can do another mostly white upper. Even though I wear mine casually.

while I like white, the neoprene material in the toebox used would make the shoe a dirt magnet which would make the shoe difficult to maintain in a clean state. that's why I opted for a colored shoe. the black pair is also doable and could mask the dirt.

Towel scrunches are good. Lay out a towel and use your bare foot to flex and scrunch it up. I do foot strengthening all the time when I’m watching tv or whatever. Try to make it flat and then squeeze it tight, repeat. Toes spreading exercises are great. They are hard to do IMO but keep practicing and you get better. Also big toe lifting/lowering while keeping rest of toes still. Tight Achilles is usually a big problem also that manifests in the plantar fascia. Your basic calf wall stretches are great while hitting different angles, 30 second holds. Stair stretch, let your heel drop off the stair.

What I had to do was take 5 minutes 3-5x a day to stretch my Achilles, calves, and feet. They tighten up when not in use. And shoes often don’t help, especially ones with a higher heel than toe, it shortens our Achilles’ tendon

having suffered plantar fasciitis a few years ago, I would say that a firm midsole and a properly constructed/elevated and placed cushion setup would prevent such injuries. my plantar fasciitis started with wearing a bad pair of shoes on a consistent basis with terrible cushioning setup. also, I put some ill-advised bad insole on the shoe which might have also contributed for my injury.
so far, my old injury doesn't seem to flare up so I couldn't say if my CUT pair could cause such problem in the future. also, it's difficult to gauge since I'm switching shoes more nowadays on a consistent basis, like 2 different pairs a day.

use a baseball/softball to roll on under your foot for several minutes. also, foot stretches and massages. those should release the tension and irritation on your fascia. best advice, wear proper footwear.

Yeah that's why I stopped wearing high tops and switched to kobes long time ago although kobe 9 highs were achilles friendly for obvious reasons lol (Kobe's shoes after return from tearing achilles). GT Cuts are good I'm looking to buy the volts next. Hope there's more colorways. Don't mind these oversaturating the market so we can get them on discount.

Can't lie I'm not trying to get that injury. Tried mine on (the cuts) yesterday before all that talk and I got the whole "can't get your foot in without pulling your sock out" thing. The insole is grippy af. So when I finally did get them on, it was a weird feeling. Feels like, for lack of a better description, like wearing flippers.

It's like you're putting on duck feet that have been trimmed to the size of your feet. I just walked around a bit and haven't played in them yet but I didn't know what to make of that. I can usually tell when I first put a pair of shoes on if they are going to work for me but these I don't know.

If you really wanna make it work you can sand down the grooves on the drop in. I know what you mean tho I feel like it might get annoying.

Honestly, problem might just be that you’re washed 🤷🏽‍♂️. Dudes ain’t stretching, gaining weight, zero conditioning, then thinking you can just make it happen.
Ain't that the truth.

I hadn't played in years and would sporadically play with some colleagues and was injuring myself more often than not. The last 3 years I've been steady in the gym, home cardio on the stationary bike, calisthenics, and haven't been injured yet.

I play professionally in Europe so while normally I'd agree with you from someone saying that on NT, I take pretty good care of my body and was just getting ready to head out for my next season in 3 weeks haha. Wasn't having any prior issues with my training until I started playing in solely the GT Cuts. I'll probably still give them run, but I can't lie I am a bit hesitant after my trainer said he's not sure about playing in them with this injury.

I dunno. But it seems something is getting caught under the ball of my left foot wearing the CUTS. It's like a bulge or maybe the sock getting wrinkled under it. Not sure if I'll try another go with another pair in store just to see if the sensation is similar or recreate that sensation. Hopefully it's not another defect. Funny when I removed the insoles, the zoom stroble looked fine, same with the insole.

This guy talks about drop in midsoles being an issue.

I tore my acl playing in Kobe 9s. I'm not trying to blame drop-in midsole. but I don't think I had the proper foot mechanics to play in them.

Thanks for sharing this man. He mentions pretty much everything my trainer warned me about with drop in midsoles and the article I read. Still trying to find that in my history for you 206to813 206to813 but this video is pretty much spot on to what I read

Interesting video, I don’t disagree with all of it but some of it I don’t buy…. When he says your foot is flopping around and not secure with drop in midsole shoes, that’s a huge stretch.

I bruised my arch playing in the nxt 360 a while back but I used to play in Kobe 8 and 9s (with no issues) all the time. The 360 you can literally roll up if you take out the drop-in so I just assumed it was too flimsy. Haven’t played in the cuts yet but they seem to have more structural integrity. Hopefully my feet will be good because they feel really nice and I love the look.

So I said this in my initial wear that I feel this in my right foot but not left. Is it in both shoes for you? I think it might be a defect. Will wait for my DSG pair before I play ball in them but I saw someone on reddit mention this and he said it flattens out a little bit with break in. I was feeling around and it seems to be the drop in. There feels like a slight bump where the numbers are etched in.

First off whose feet are thin enough to wear orthotics on top of a drop in midsole?... But the cuts midsole is tight AF idk how there's even any instability or movement unless you have a crap ton of dead space. I just don't understand the logic behind it for the shoes I specifically wore that had drop in midsoles. Heck I even replaced my kobe 9 drop ins with my lebron 11s when the kobe 9s lunar drop in bottomed out. Not even the drop in meant for the shoe and I played in those for a long time. But I guess I'm not a professional athlete so there's that. Maybe because my foot is wide and most of the time I barely even have wiggle room in my shoes to begin with.
