Nike Air Jordan 1 Retro "UNC" - The Aftermath - NO BUYING/SELLING/TRADING

Boyz n the hood was complete hollywood garbage. Dont get me started. If that was a true hood movie cuba woulda been the one that got smoked.

Menace to society, south central, colors, american me, straight outta brooklyn, fresh, clockers, juice, new jack city, and beat street.

RAMOOOOOOOO!!!!!
why would cuba (tre) be the one who shoulda got smoked when it was ricky (morris chestnut) who was the one flexin during the altercation at the 'Shaw, which eventually got him marked for death. Ricky was the target, not cuba.

"Don't Be a Menace to South Central while drinking your Juice in the Hood."

"I Got The Hook Up"

As hood as it gets.

I often cop shoes to flip and here's where I stand.

1. I'm an auditor at a Big Four accounting firm. I also have my CPA license.
2. It does feel good to be able to come up on very limited sneakers. It might be like winning at the casino.
3. As a businessman, I find it wise to make money whenever an opportunity presents itself. However, I will not do anything illegal because I'm an educated individual that wouldn't risk my livelihood for a quick buck.

You sir are an outlier.
Okay. I'll take that.

Menace II Society, Juice, then Boyz N The Hood in that order.  New Jack City I heard good things about but never seen it.

I could've sworn it was the Fab5 who started the baggy shorts.

I'm with you , man. MJ wasn't wearing baggy shorts in his early years . Maybe baggy by 1985 standards but definitely not 90s baggy. The fab 5 were so ill and ahead of their time. Even in those 30 for 30, they talk about the baggy clothing and how the fab started that .

CWebb need to let it go .... Btw

You're probably not even old enough. Jordan started the longer baggier shorts. Believe what you want though. Jordan was the trend setter. Period.

Not to mention, the 1989 Illinois "Flyin'" Illini were wearing the longer baggier shorts before the Fab Five. :lol

A few days ago the topic of resellers came up. What some people don't realize is that Air Jordan "re-selling" has been around since the mid-late 90s when we, the sneaker nation, was doin it with the OG J's. There were no crazy raffles, no bots, no sneaker sites that published RD's in advance, no tweets... u just had to know who to talk to and network among the people who worked at the stores. EVERYTHING was fcfs. Shoes weren't as "limited" because they were originals and all of em were pretty much GR's. And here's the kicker: there was no strict enforcement of the one pair per customer rule. Hence, collectors, hoopsters, and yes, resellers, would cop multiple pairs at a time, which created scarcity and eventually the shoe would sell out within a day or two, thus creating demand. It was very rare that Nike would re-stock because a brand new colorway was set to release within a couple months.

I remember when the OG 12s dropped for the '96-97 NBA season, the first colorway to drop in the fall was the taxi. Instant sell out- retail was about $125 or so (cant exactly remember off the top of my head) and resale price reached upwards of $330. By Christmas u had the Obsidians, which was another sell out. Before the All-Star break, MJ had already broke out the white/red 12s (I refrain from calling them "Cherry" - that's the worst nickname ever for a pair of J's) during away games. Mike wore the taxis primarily during home games. So by Feb., the white/reds dropped and sold out instantly but all the hype that year centered around the playoff 12s, which was the last colorway released right before the playoffs started. Resale was easily in the $300-350 range.

Believe it or not, resale value was actually higher for GR og's back then than they are now for retros and remasters, particularly because there weren't really such things as "limited size run pairs" or "quickstrikes" or "special collabs" which are the types of pairs that generally have high resale prices nowadays.

Pretty lengthy but hope you enjoyed taking a trip back in time with me....I miss the good ol' days when sneaker collecting was much much simpler, obtaining a pair was hassle-free, and people actually appreciated re-sellers because 99.9% of the people who copped em for retail WORE THEIR J'S! Which means if they were still available for re-sale, you were getting a very limited aftermarket DS pair in spite of the $150 markup because more than likely there was only a handful left out in the market that hadn't touched concrete.
Excuse my ignorance, but where exactly where the shoes being resold? I don't believe there was much of a resale market for shoes until eBay became popular, so maybe 2001 or 2002? Even then, resale prices were not what they used to be. No classic XII colorway will sell at over $150 over retail. It just didn't happen.

I think perhaps in certain places things were selling for those prices-probably larger cities. I dont doubt it.  I know that they weren't reselling everywhere. I will say I got my first eBay account in 2001.  I resold a guitar in 2001.  I resold shoes on there from 2001-2004 heavily, but I don't remember prices being much above retail tbh.  I sold my Space Jams for like $100 over retail and back then that was a big deal.  I was able to make about $3000 off of my collection then. That same collection would've gotten me about $10,000 today.

I feel like these will age nicely from seeing how the OGs look. I like the faded blue and cream/off white leather and midsole.

Nope. Jordan started it. He wore his UNC practice shorts underneath.

Is there anyway to post some pics and try to tell what year it was? This can't be that difficult of a debate to settle.

From everything I looked at seems MJ didn't start wearing , what I consider baggy, until the 90-91 season. Tried to have photos with other players at the time and they all look pretty much the same length. 91 finals MJs shorts slightly longer Than Magics.

Maybe the fab 5 did or maybe they didn't but I definitely don't think MJ started the baggy shorts.
