Nike Air 180 OG

I would really, really, REALLY  like some help. I love the OG's, had them when they originally released in the 90's and got the ultramarines again in 2013. The problem is that I bought the safari sole ones (see pic below), and the sides of the tounge are still sewn to the bottom of the shoe but the tounge isn't elastic like on the OG's! This results in the toungue choking my right foot (slightly larger) to the point of pain... I'm such a sad panda, do I have to break out the scissors and cut through the sides of the tounge to free them from the bottom of the shoe, or is there a better solution?

Thanks in advance, I really love the shoe and the CW, but as it is now it's almos unwearable...

@armakuni

I'm afraid that's the only option. Other than size up or maybe replace the inner with a thinner one.
Or just rock them without the inner. Your feet won't know the difference with a medium thickness pair of socks.
That's one option.

Normally I'd say put them in the washing machine and scrub the **** out of the tongue first. When the tongue holds water it just balloons giving you a looser comfy feeling.
I wash my 180's on a regular and I've learnt that the less tongue scrubbing you do the better original shape you will keep.

Now your thinking why I said normally I'd wash them.

I don't think you could get away with washing them safari print as it is just print. Or glorified sello-tape. Why they never painted them I'll never know.

So I wouldnt put them in the washing machine.

You could try just scrubbing the tongue with water and see if it gives any after drying. But I think because of the tough non-elastic u materials they are now using it just won't happen. Worth a try before you get the scissors tho.

Just start small cuts and feel your way in.
No one else will see it and it won't flop around as it will be still attached to some extent.

Hope this helps

Had the same issue. Really disappointing as the ultramarines fit absolutely perfectly. It ***** me that Nike would change such a great fit (personal preference obviously).

I couldn't go up a size because: a. I bought online from the uk and had worn them so I couldn't return, and b. I knew the size up would be too long.

I tried stretching and wearing with no luck. I tried a small snip in the tongue but that did nothing. Again my tongue was tight to the point of pain. In the end I lost my **** and cut completely through On either side at the base of the tongue as it was either that or throw them away. They now fit fine, but obviously it is not at all how they should be worn, which again is really disappointing.

My only advice is if you decide to cut right through go as close to the sole as you can and use a really sharpe blade.

Sorry I can't be of more help. But that is my whole ****** experience with the safari sole.

I wanted this retro to work but with the lack of the original huge air pocket and narrow fit I've since sold my pairs.

Hadnt checked the thread in a while, I bought the ones Armakuni posted and the left one was literally putting my foot to sleep! So I thought they would stretch out with wearing them a few weeks. Never happened, so I just used scissors to snip both of the straps on the sides halfway through closest to the sole I could get. Now theyre really comfy

So the 1, 90, 180, 93 never had forefoot air? I find that hard to believe.

Ok, makes sense. Yeah I remember the forefoot air was fairly thin. After I trashed my kicks as a kid I would always take a knife too them and see what made them tick. :)

how do people get their shoes to be so flat and parallel to the ground?

I really want Nike to retro the Air Max 2 lite, which people didnt really like but I fell in love when I saw someone wearing them as a kid back in 93...........but my parent wouldnt get them for me

i had those back in the days, that was the first air max shoe where they didnt changed the air unit at the GS version

normally the GS air maxes will get an different midsole and air unit compared to the adult versions

but the GS version from this model

was exactly the same as the adult version

Thank you so much Nicks and Brondiesel for taking the time to answer, feels better not being alone with the problem! I guess I'll have to snip too, may I ask why you cut through the tongue instead of trying to undo the stitching where the tongue connects to the insole?

I didnt cut through the tongue, but right where the stitching is which connects the straps to the insole.
Its impossible to undo the stitching because of the angle. Maybe if you have tiny hands you can make it work. Otherwise just cut 2-3" right through

I am a fan of the 180. But all I wanna beg is Nike PLEASE give us a bigger (OG) 180 bag. The bag that they use now is basically an air max bag attached with the outsole piece~~. I guess the og bag had a better cushioning then the retro bags~ anyone feel free to discuss this issue~ I started my air max journey from the 180 then so on till the 2013.
