Nike 30th Anniversary “Just Do It” Campaign.

You cant look at the minority of cases and apply it to the majority. Outside of abnormalities or freak occurrences, yes individuals decide their own fate. Good example Ill give you that second point, that some things are out of your hands, but still the majority of your life is up to you and what you do with it.
I was not generalizing an extreme case. I have disproven your point that "nobody but you controls your fate."

In the context of the topic of the thread, it means that we cannot attribute the issues raised by Kap's protest to "victim mentality" because there are tangible factors that affect the lives of black people in the US that are outside of their hands.

When we look further into those issues, we realize that those factors were not random, but carefully crafted to be effective over multiple generations in order to shape our perception of American society and our place within it.

Take voter registration and access to the polls; take the imbalances in sentencing; take the portrayal of the American working class that excludes the black working class; take the language used to describe different ethnic groups that share the same economic status. Take the language used to describe government help depending on who is likely to use it.

None of this is random and none of this should shock you if you have been following what has been happening politically since 2013. That black folks are steered towards a life of second class citizenship is not a myth. People like you are, as you put it, an outlier. Recognizing the political, social, and economic reality is the first step towards making sure your path becomes the norm.

this whole "uncle tom" **** is kinda dumb really... is every black person expected to think the same way? should every black person have a hivemind when it comes to everything? let the man speak what he thinks, and if u disagree, yall should be discussing and not attacking eachother lol this thread is a nightmare and why there is never any progress towards social issues, injustices, and very much so racial relations.

note: not taking any sides here, and in my opinion i dont think kaep's kneeling was that disrespectful (rather not at all) to the anthem...

I’m not black by the way.

But black folks should pretty much be on the same page. When you got a black man who says things like “blacks don’t have it all that bad” or “don’t commit crimes and police won’t harass you” he’s clearly an Uncle Tom because he’s saying EXACTLY what a lot of white people want to hear. They want blacks to shut up and live their lives so it’s an issue for someone to be an Uncle Tom. Blacks who think blacks in America have the same equal opportunities/ fail to see systematic racism are a huge part of the issue.

During slavery, wasn’t it not cool for a slave to snitch to the master to report slaves who were running away or planning to escape? It’s the same as today. A lot of white folks want blacks and other minorities to be content with their situation then they shouldn’t be. That’s what these idiot nfl fans think of Colin kap.

Appreciate the post it doesn't shock me at all what mankind has been doing to each other. Truly it's messed up and sad. I've always looked at it as if my friends and I could do it why not every black person. I recognize that many black people can and should be doing great things, some of them are just "held back" to a degree. However, I still believe that as a man/women in 2018 we have more avenues and paths to success, and better quality of life than ever before. I want people to know they can achieve that regardless race, sex, religion, or sexual orientation. Starting to realize that I may be the abnormality, I'll keep your post in mind and reflect on it.

Wait wait wait, are you as a white man telling me how to think and behave.... jk jk

All I'm saying is that in 2018 there is equal opportunity for everybody in America. If you have a dream go head and achieve theres no laws from preventing you from doing so. So in regards of how we have it, we have it great, we live in the greatest country in the world. Is it perfect, far from it, but it is the best we got right now. I have yet to hear a story that says cops are murdering innocent blacks in the street. It just not happening, the ones who are having run ins with law enforcement are usually ones breaking the laws. Let me phrase this is not all blacks or even most, just a few rotten apples in the bunch.

Grew up on section 8, so can you please go head and cite me law where it says you cannot work or go somewhere because of race, religion, or sexual orientation. Affirmative action was created so that minorities would have equal footing. Affirmative action has gotten loads of minorities into college and jobs that they may've not of gotten before now. So how are we not equal?

Refer to my last post about the way American norms are created.

Does breaking the law warrant an automatic death sentence?
Oh no definitely not. I don't want police to be judge, jury, and executioner. Cops are highly trained professionals at their job, but at the end of the day they are human, and have fear. Being human and having a right to life as well, if someone threatens you with a weapon and tries to harm you, they should have right to protect themselves. Does that make sense? These cops have families too, if this person who is breaking the law threatens you from seeing said family, they have to protect themselves. Obviously not every person is a criminal, I'm only referring to the ones who are once detained and have found cause to breaking the law, intend to harm the officer.

And the problem is that *fear* is predicated by the color of the skin of whoever they see in front of them, which leads to unarmed and/or innocent black men and women shot dead in seconds without a chance, while white people are addressed politely and respectfully.

And that is the reason for Kaep's protests.

This video sums it up better than I ever could.

Damn eye opener for sure
So no, everyone is not given an equal chance in life. Breaking through a childhood spent in poverty is incredibly difficult. It's not just a race thing bc poor white kids face a hill to climb as well but people of color are affected more bc a higher % come from poverty. Doesn't mean it cant be done but those that do are absolutely the minority. The deck is stacked against them from birth. As a kid I didnt realize this. Just never really thought about it. I grew up very privileged but most of my best friends were poor black kids from the hood that I only knew bc my dad was our football coach and he cared more about winning games than race so we went to the projects to pick up 5-6 kids every day so that they could play with us. They spent every weekend at my house. I never stopped to realize I never went to stay at their house. Now I'm older and I realize how many advaItages I had over them. Some ended up making good. A couple got locked up. One got killed in high school. So I may have ended up the most successful but it damn sure wasnt all my doing. I'm going to do everything in my power to give my daughter every advantage in this world but at the same time I will make sure she knows she was born on 3rd base when a lot of others were born in an 0-2 count.

There are a lot of assumptions in your comment, the first one being that cops are highly trained, yet they seem to know very little about conflict deescalation techniques. That is just one example of a skill many American cops simply lack.

The second one is the assumption that cops always use force in excess in the face of imminent danger. There have been plenty of stories of people being subjected to excessive force by police (those shot in the back or through their garage doors, strangled, and/or beaten to an inch of their lives).

∆∆∆∆(BTW, these are real-life examples of police brutality).

The third is the assumption that cops on the street don't always feel and act like judge, jury, and executioner. In fact, many former cops critical of the blue wall of silence describe police culture as just that: an environment of impunity where grave mistakes result in a mere slap on the wrist, a paid vacation, and reassignment.

Police have families; so do the people who get shot by them during a begnin traffic stop, while walking in the park, etc because "they are afraid."

Being afraid is not an excuse to perform poorly at your job. Cab drivers are forced by law to pick up anybody who request their services, and if they get reported for not doing that, they can lose their license. Doctors get their license pulled when they poorly perform. Civil engineers get their license pulled when their bridges collapse and kill people. Oil rig workers don't get to say "I'm scared of the requirements of the job" and keep getting paid. Cops get taxpayer-funded vacations.

ill believe the boycott once i see a pair of air monarchs being burned to a crisp. until then not valid.

Seriously, are you bipolar or something? Half the time your posts make sense and fit whatever thread you're in, and the other half you spout some nonsense conspiracy babble and I don't understand what the **** it is you're even on about. Makes me think there's two ppl out there with your login creds....

still arguing negating the fact as to why kap kneeled in the 1st place. ..creating all these strawmen just to divert the attention from the origin that still hasn't been remedied because we see the disparities everyday when we walk out the house, turn on the tv, read something online. like i said before, i'm not debating anyone as to why my life is worth living, but i'm not allowing anyone to treat me or people like me differently because of our race either, you can ignore it, but you won't disrespect it, promise.
