I was not generalizing an extreme case. I have disproven your point that "nobody but you controls your fate."You cant look at the minority of cases and apply it to the majority. Outside of abnormalities or freak occurrences, yes individuals decide their own fate. Good example Ill give you that second point, that some things are out of your hands, but still the majority of your life is up to you and what you do with it.
In the context of the topic of the thread, it means that we cannot attribute the issues raised by Kap's protest to "victim mentality" because there are tangible factors that affect the lives of black people in the US that are outside of their hands.
When we look further into those issues, we realize that those factors were not random, but carefully crafted to be effective over multiple generations in order to shape our perception of American society and our place within it.
Take voter registration and access to the polls; take the imbalances in sentencing; take the portrayal of the American working class that excludes the black working class; take the language used to describe different ethnic groups that share the same economic status. Take the language used to describe government help depending on who is likely to use it.
None of this is random and none of this should shock you if you have been following what has been happening politically since 2013. That black folks are steered towards a life of second class citizenship is not a myth. People like you are, as you put it, an outlier. Recognizing the political, social, and economic reality is the first step towards making sure your path becomes the norm.
