Yahoo! Sports' Dan Wetzel has been "texting with team officials around the NFL," and the belief around the league is that the Ravens will release Ray Rice.

Knew this was coming

All Ray Rice has to say is that the Ravens saw the whole tape BEFORE the suspension was announced. Releasing him would be grounds for wrongful termination on the heels of them already issuing the 2 game suspension.

IMO, he'll be in uniform, and starting week 3.

Sad to say...but this isn't the first or last bad look for the league. They're teflon, and they know it.

goodell needs to step down for the benefit of everyone. this recent blunder really should be the nail in the coffin for him

You think Godell should step down!?!?

Let your emotions go and think about that for a min.
uhhh...yeah, he should step down. has nothing to do with emotions, so not sure why you would write that

he's been a terrible nfl commissioner. that's it. nothing else to it. this event just further adds to his trail of misjudgments and poor decisions as a figurehead

It is all about who saw what tape at this point. If the league and teams get caught lying, look out

Ravens officials had not seen this Rice video prior to today but he had described actions in detail. Didn't "sugarcoat" it source said...

So while the actual footage today was new to the Ravens visually, the description Rice gave them was in line with what the video displayed

But they plan to cut him huh?

I can't believe this. You mean to tell me that TMZ was able to obtain a security tape that the Ravens (and possibly Goodell) had never seen? LMAOOOOO

Get outta here w/ that. This isn't the 53rd man on the roster...this is a marquee player and they're just gonna take his word on it?

Y'all really here thinking the NFL cares about the individual players? They wanted the situation swept under the rug ASAP any means necessary.

Man his job is make as much money for the owners as possible and he's been great at that. The hell you talking about?

Ray Rice is protected by that 2 game suspension. League can't give a suspension on top of a suspension. In addition, the Ravens can't cut ties with him either.
why wouldn't the ravens be able to cut him? pretty sure there's nothing in their way preventing them from getting rid of him in a situation like this

NFL has to be lying about not seeing the video. Few weeks ago they said they used the video to determine their punishment.

Let me rephrase it...they absolutely CAN cut him.....however, they best be prepared for a wrongful termination lawsuit.

WHAT?!?

The NFL is at an all time high right now.

Like they're literally killing MLB.

@ that Ray Rice video.

I thought the suspension he got was ridiculous before but after seeing this good Lord.

Now Goodell and the Ravens trying to save face by saying they didn't see the elevator video.

All the resources the NFL and it's teams have, you mean to tell me that it was impossible for Goodell or the Ravens to get access to some security cam elevator footage?

Ray Rice is definitely gone from the Ravens now. It's all about the PR damage control for the NFL now.

Has that ever occurred (actually wondering)? I figured it was an at will contract/employment and they are decently protected by that

Goddell might be unpopular in fans eyes but he has laced teams with money so the owners love him

Why? Conduct detrimental to the team is all they need.

It's been used on plenty of players. Shiit it happened to TO 2x lol

Wow. After seeing that vid, Ray needs to be suspended the whole year. Dude straight up hit her like a man.

And shame on you Goodell. You know you saw that.

The NFL is king in spite of Roger and his mishaps (IMO). These blunders keep piling up and long term effects will be felt. I think Cuban's comments are very telling

ugh. this culture of sports, football, business, etc

not every owner has been cheerleading for goodell's tenure just because he's been making them money

[thread="594149"]wrongful termination lawsuit?[/thread]
[thread="594149"] [/thread]
[thread="594149"]behavior detrimental to the team's policies or something along that line should nullify that argument[/thread]

So, why the 2 game suspension then? If the conduct was THAT detrimental to the team's policies, Rice would have been gone 5 weeks ago.

Goodell doesn't seem to have a long term plan which is his biggest problem

When you decisions in "the now" it will always come back to create disaster in the future

Assuming the CBA doesn't have something blanketing this... http://www.dllr.state.md.us/labor/wagepay/wpatwill.shtml
In Maryland, employees work "at the will" of their employers. This means, in the absence of an express contract, agreement or policy to the contrary, an employee may be hired or fired for almost any reason -- whether fair or not -- or for no reason at all.
