Carolina's defense is great largely in part to Kuechly. Elite defenses are built down the middle. DT, MLB, FS. Panthers have it except for safety. Seahawks had it with a rotational DL, Wagner, and ET.
You mentioned Burfict. Luke's coverage skills may be average, but still better in comparison. And he makes plays on instinct in coverage.
Most knowledgable football fans know Ware (healthy) and Suggs are better than Clay.
I've been one of the biggest proponents for David besides Buc Em. Even after the late-hit on Geno.
The writer hurts his credibility by arguing Davis had a better performance than Kuechly. I've watched him since Georgia and now in Carolina. Simply not true.
^ Not so fast, my friend...
We finished 2012 ranked 10th in defense...which was the season before we drafted Star && KK.
If Luke didn't switch from an out-of-position Sam LB in order to fill the void at Mike after Beason got injured that year...we wouldn't have been even 30% as good on D. Trust me on that.
And we wouldn't have made the playoffs last year without Luke, let alone fielding a top 2 defense.
No guarantee at all that we don't fall below 5 with ease if we were to lose 59 this year. Just to continue along the hypothetical route...if Luke did get hurt, who's to say that Charles Johnson also doesn't get leg whipped again, && has to miss time/play at less than 100%? Or who's to say that Greg Hardy racks up 7 of his sacks in the final two games of the year again? Maybe Thomas Davis tears his ACL a fourth time...you never know. Hopefully it stays that way, too.
But, being that he's the quarterback of our defense (or, as I like to say, the Peyton Manning of defense), his loss alone would screw us horribly.
Re-watch the 2nd Saints game from last year (among other games) if you must. Every way Luke impacts && commands the defense is shown in those 60 minutes of game action. Run defense, pass coverage, pre-play adjustments, lining guys up, creating turnovers, swinging momentum. He did it all, && he does it all...even if some of those things don't show up on a stat sheet. In fact, those may be the most important ones.
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
JJ Watt's 6-yr, $100M contract gives him an average salary of $16.6M per year, the richest deal any NFL defensive player.

There is not one single thing Kuechly is better at on the football field than Lavonte.
Lavonte and McCoy are both top 10 defensive players by the way.
Only thing Luke and J.J. really have over other guys are high motors
Are you saying this because you're a Bucs fan or you truly think it?
Anyway, I agree with you. David is one of the more underrated players in the league and McCoy continues to get better.
An idiot.
Yes, coming from the guy who completely derails the thread with NFC South pissing matches every time the Falcons are mentioned. They're an in-state rival and a national media punching bag. Stop whining. You have so much hate burning in your heart for the city of Cleveland. Every time the Browns come up you make sure to throw a jab in.
