I should've specificed that he tries hard to be funny, not while being insightful. I appreciate his game knowledge and color, and I feel that, but he's always trying to crack Nessler up with some silly metaphor that's bordering on straight corny. That's how I hear him, at least. He seems to crack himself up and maybe Nessler really does find him funny but I can't help but 
when I hear him laugh at his own jokes for a solid 2 hours

I could see where you're coming from, mugzbo.
It doesn't bother me much because it's nowhere near as awful as listening to Gruden on MNF. I recognize his pedigree as a head coach but as a commentator he just comes across as a windbag. I find myself constantly cringing at the things he says in the booth.
