I don't think I ever finished all the JLU episodes when I was a kid so I watched every episode on netflix recently. Going to start regular JL soon since I don't remember much of it. After that I won't have a cartoon to watch until young justice season 2 is put up.

A few other ppl were in the movie/tv thread but I've also seen a whole bunch of ppl who loved or liked it.

Seems like an even split so far.

Almost everyone i know who seen that film was disappointed in it.

My friends review:

"Godzilla is basically a 2 hour video of people talking in different command centers from maybe a dozen or so locations, debating where the creatures are moving to next. You're probably better off watching the Travel Channel."

May catch Godzilla at an early showing tomorrow. I honestly have zero expectations. I'm not really a fan of the gojira genre, but the effects look good and I love me some Elizabeth Olsen.

I wouldn't even be able to handle a normal sized EO.

In case anyone wants to watch this in 3D, don't, it's a waste. The thing I hate about 3D is the fact that even on IMAX, everything appears smaller. I thought that at least the halo jump scene would look good (a la Michael Bay) but it was pretty uneventful in 3D. Having a film in 3D AND IMAX is almost a contradiction. However, the clarity of the picture is great.

Overall, I give this a 6/10.

Easy pay day for Ken Watanabe. Just sat/stood around, looking surprised in conference rooms. The thing I really didn't like is that I had no emotional connection to any of the characters. Aaron Taylor-Johnson is a good looking dude, but I could care less about him. I don't even know why they put EO in this. When the film started I was really hyped to see Sally Hawkins in the credits, but again, she didn't do crap. Same with Juliette Binoche. IMO, they should have shifted the focus on the film to Bryan Cranston. He was the only character I cared about. The actual scenes with Gojira were great. Very good design. I hated the fact that they kept c*ck teasing the "fight" scenes, but whatever. I'm usually not into destruction and overblown special effects, but I loved the third act. Great setup for a sequel.

And I know that I'm going to get flamed for this, but they really need to use Cloverfield as a template for these type of films. I'm not saying it has to be done in a found footage format, but I just remember seeing Cloverfield a couple months ago thinking, "this would be so bad-as* if the Gojira was in it."

So yeah, it was okay, but I'm actually surprised that it's getting 7+ on RT and IMDB.

I think it's a sentimental thing. People seemed to be really happy that it was basically the anti-Michael Bay blockbuster. The mature tone and realistic characters and filmmaking. A cast full of talented people (whether or not they actually use it).I think on principle, people just wished more summer movies were like it.

I'm holding out more hope for Dawn of the Apes, though.

Most review was 50-50 split on it until the pay-off in the end. Most of the good reviews also stated that if they removed the last 15-20 minutes then the movie would be ranked a lot lower.

Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of "The Secret Service" has a new name: "Kingsman: The Secret Service." The film's official title was revealed via EW.com in an interview with leading actor Colin Firth, who discussed his transition from more romantic leading roles -- such as "Pride & Prejudice's" Mr. Darcy and Jamie in "Love, Actually" -- to becoming an ***-kicking secret agent.

"I think what’s brilliant about Matthew [Vaughn] is that he takes people’s expectations and likes to mess with them," Firth told EW. "When we first met the year before, he said, 'One of the reasons I’m casting you is because you’re probably the last person anyone could imagine kicking people and kicking off the villains.' And that was the surprise he wanted to pull. And he said, by the way, 'You’re going to have to do it. Are you up to it?' That’s one of the reasons he got me so early, to start training. He said, 'You’re going to hate me by the end of it,' and sure enough, the Jackie Chan training team comes to my house and they get to work on me. I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed myself so much in my life. I realized that I’d made assumptions about myself that meant I had probably been neglecting something that I might have enjoyed for years if I’d got to it earlier."

Firth's trainers included Brad Allan, a kung fu black belt; Rudi Vrba, a Thai boxing world champion; stuntman Rick English; Olympic gold medal gymnast Damien Walters and more. That said, Firth hasn't abandoned his "Pride & Prejudice" roots, saying. "There's something of me in Mr. Darcy and there's probably something of that in a lot of things I've done. Anyway, it seems like Vaughn is pretty comfortable working mostly with FOX at the moment. Same way Nolan mostly works with or through WB.

Is Matthew Vaughn doing the Superior flick too? I actually found out about the comic here on NT a while back and it was really dope.
