What if the NBA had a tournament like the NCAA with all 30 teams. Would something like that be successful with fans? would it even be able to compete with theNCAA March Madness or would it be a flop?

Wouldn't make enough money. Now, if they did it for the teams that didn't make the playoffs. That would be kind of interesting. Like, whoever won the"losers" tournament would be guaranteed top 3 or first round. But then again, probably not going to work.

That might be an interesting idea for Pre-season.

I can't see it working as the playoff. The thing about March Madness in college is the unpredictability, and seeing teams you have never heard of comingout of nowhere to make the sweet 16, and pride for your own school. I don't see that much hype going into a pro tourney because fans change so often.

Yea thats what i was thinking. I was saying for it to replace the playoffs or finals. Just a little something either before or after the season.

Flop. Even if it was during preseason, most of the starters won't play the game as if was a regular season game.

no, if you meant it would be before or after the season why did you call it "March" Madness? you were thinking it could replace the playoffs. or youdidn't think at all. don't lie.

Or maybe make the Summer League an actual tournament. So the young guys have some incentive to play. That would make things a little more competitive.

put all the lottery teams at the end of the year into a mini bracket while the regular playoffs are going on.

1 game elimination, and draft order is resulted based off the order of teams being eliminated. #1 pick = winner of the lottery bracket.

this way, nba makes money off the regular playoffs, while still finding a way to make money off teams that have 'nothing to play for' while actuallyhaving to play for something.

wait, so the best lottery teams gets the #1 pick? isnt the point of the lottery to give help to the worst teams?

how fair would it be to have a strong team like the Nuggets or Blazers cruise through the lottery bracket and get the #1 pick, while a pathetic team like theHeat or Knicks loses in the first round and get #16?

or am i not understanding what you said?

^ well, it's the best of the worst teams.

It could work like they do in European soccer - you have the regular league and a champ is crowned at the end of it but at the same time teams are playinggames in a cup tournament.

The thing I don't like about that is you would then have rival champions - and it depends which one is more important how much merit is given to it - inEnglish football you have the league champion and the FA cup and the League (or Carling) Cup.

The teams can also qualify for European tournaments by doing well in the other stuff - and that's an interesting idea - on a more formal basis than justthe current 'sometimes the NBA champ goes and plays a few teams overseas'.

That would involve a big change to the NBA system though - way less regular season games for a start and probably a shift in the season to match up better withother countries.
