My son's letter to "Niketown"

Just wanted to put this out there because I know there are a lot of great folks on this thread who can probably contribute something to this cause, which is not a "big deal" by any means, but is a cool thing my son and his 10 year old friend did the other day for their class. As it states, nothing has to be "earth shattering' or expensive"- more than anything these kids will just think its cool to have/see something 'team" or even Nike oriented with regards to anything from hats, gloves, jerseys, t-shirts, promotional team "giveaways" posters, trinkets, etc... anything is appreciated, and as I said, versus having them send this letter direct to NIKE corporate or NIKETOWN as they put it, I just figured i would reach out to members with connects or contacts of their own who probably have more reach than some random who would read the letter. Feel free to PM me with questions and I can direct you to their teacher/coordinator's address for this project. Nothing needs to be sent directly to me or them and as noted- totally voluntary- please don't feel obligated or pressured. Thanks for reading.

Just remember sometimes these letters reach a person who doesn't care and they never get to a person who can actually do something for you

BUT I'm confused, they have someone that designs shoes and mom used to work on campus? Couldn't she get it in the right people's hands.

Good questions for sure. Wife used to work on World campus- about 3-4 months total. about 15 years ago. If she dug deep, she may be able to get it into someone's hands, but she is a "mom" and that's not exactly her thing at this stage. I offered to post on NT after my son showed me because I thought it was well written and there are plenty of folks here who even if they don't work for NIKE per se, they have jobs in the sports sector, for teams, front offices, marketing, etc... Regarding his buddy's family- someone in his family designs dress shoes and my guess has "some connects" but they are more related to formal shoes than athletics. Nonetheless, I am sure they have attempted to tap into their contacts on this as well. As I emphasized- this isn't mandatory, but if you have an idea, and think it would be a nice thing to contribute to- great! If not, I completely understand and last thing I would want would be for folks to consider this "using" people versus politely asking and graciously appreciating.

Hey guys/gals, this isn't a big deal- even if its a team calendar, bobblehead, t-shirt, whatever.... these kids would appreciate anything. I know there are plenty of NTers with good and decent connects that would simply have to ask and it would be done. Off the top of my head, I have a guy who has some game worn Milwaukee Bucks players shoes, some Packer Jerseys, and other memorabilia via another connect. I am certain we will get a few things from him, but again, they are local, not from Nike, Oregon, other non-local teams. If PM is preferred, by all means hit me up. Thanks again for considering.

That might be easier, and I completely get your line of thinking, but this puts more "ownership" of the trip in the kids hands and allows their whole school to get involved on some level.

Yo, I hate to be that guy, but something about this got me like

I mean, there are tons of fund raiser programs out there from Krispy Kreme and M&M's candies to those little gift catalogs... I mean, it's a cool idea and all, but if your real purpose is to give the kids "ownership" and get the entire school involved, asking for free items to raffle off seems like the wrong way to go about it. Something community based would be more involved in my opinion, but don't let me ruin the fun.

Awesome idea. Smart for posting it here as a start...

- Have your son type the letter to make it look more professional.

- Go to Nikebiz.com and have a look around, there should be some information on who to contact in terms of donations. 

- Go to twitter and tweet away. You should be able to get SOME sort of response.
