Honestly, Just be there for him. This is when he needs you most when he probably thinks the world is on his shoulders and he has no one. Comfort him and tell him everything will be ok and God will never give him something he can't get through. There's a light to every tunnel and as bad as he has it he still has it VERY GOOD. These obstacles he has would be HEAVEN with people in other parts of the world. This will only make him stronger. You're doing all you can so don't feel discouraged. I've always had a thing for people outside my race. More excitement to it. Although I am put in a position right now where my current bf told me he wouldnt be able to marry because I'm not arabic.
