he would do a full out sprint for 30 seconds and then rest for 30 seconds 5 times.

Yea, the cool down stretch is vital, especially for folks your age.No.

Once that is in your routine, move it to the hills. Grassy hills are best since the ground is softer vs. Concrete.yeah it sounds like bull**** till you actually do it... 5 minutes a day
just make sure you keep good form throughout when you are sprinting.
full sprints when you are gassed are an easy way to get an injury
