First off, there is no such thing as the greatest basketball player of all time. When you get into that discussion, you start to cross generations, and era's, and that is completely unfair.
Mike never had to go up against Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, etc. neither did Magic Johnson
But those guys didn't have to go up against Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Clyde Drexler, Malone & Stockton in their hay-day, Kareem, etc.
Oscar Robertson never went up against ball players like Lebron, Kobe Bryant, and some of the best players of today.
My point is, its entirely too hard to try to compare players, let alone from different eras. Opinions start to come into play, rather than facts. Today's NBA features several players to me that, are better than players from the past, but that's just my opinion. From my point of view, Oscar Roberson, and his era couldn't hold a handle to Kobe Bryant being isolated on the wing, or Lebron on a fast break, but that's just me.
But back to the point, Michael Jordan to me is better than Magic Johnson. Jordan was more versatile on the floor and could do more things offensively and defensively than Magic Johnson. Magic was rolling with Hall of Fame crews back in his prime and the byron scotts and the Michael Coopers of the world, same can't be said about Mike imo, but to each its own. Everything Magic can do, Jordan can do, and better.
But this goes back to my point, who's better out of mike and magic is irrelevant, because if not now, in a couple of years kobe bryant can be thrown into this discussion as being better than both of these guys, and i'm sure people will say pete maravich, Wilt, Kareem, Oscar, etc. can be considered to be the best basketball player of all time as well.
So Mike is better than Magic to me, but that doesn't make him the greatest basketball player of all time. No One is.
