Binged up to ep 8.

Show isn't bad so far but I think like many had higher expectations.

Not a big fan of Danny so far either but I do like Ward's character development so far :lol

I knew boy was gon snap

I don't either and that isn't really what I judge it as miscasting but at the end of the day, it is a show based on a comic book character that id drawn to be ripped and I want someone built like Bruce Lee than some dude who looked like CM Punk.

Either way, dude could have gained some muscle and definition for the role, once he got the part, he should have lived in the gym.

True. It's what I would've done, as it's not like I would've had anything else to do other than prepare for playing Iron Fist :lol

What threw me off the most (like you said) is that he never looked convincing as a fighter through his movements and meditation. The P90X comparison is on point; it looks like what I used to do until I got bored and gave up during the Yoga X video :lol

I could've overlooked it if he was just starting out as a fighter in the story and still had a lot of training to finish, but this guy literally defeated a damn dragon yet almost got killed by a 60 year old dad at the end. The inconsistencies were too much

Don't mind Loras being a skinny dude, a lot of martial artists I know in real life look frail. I won't use that as a reason for miscasting.

However, as others have mentioned, dude is supposed to be the greatest fighter (or at least one of them) on earth, right? I NEVER got that feeling at any point of the show, and that's what caused me to not like the show as much. I'd say this is a 30% casting and 70% writing issue; he didn't move like a trained fighter at all, and he was constantly struggling against no-name villains. When a blind hero that spends most of his time as a lawyer is more convincing as a deadly fighter than someone who has trained 24/7 for 15 years, you know there's a problem.

I didn't hate the show and thought it was an OK time killer, but yeah, it could've been a lot better.

In all fairness, DD fights mostly in his full body suit, so it's much easier to use a body double.

True, I was referring more to the writing though. If I were some random goon that had to pick between fighting Daredevil and Iron Fist, I'd rather fight Iron Fist. That's how unconvincing the show was to me in portraying IF as a deadly fighter sent from another realm.

I know we're supposed to believe that DD doesn't try to kill anyone, but a lot of his fights would at the very least leave you in paralyzed or in a coma after he beat you down :lol I'll take my chances with IF; the worst that would happen is that I'd get a twirling jump kick to the chest

Just found out that The Defenders is going to be 8 episodes....Should have made IF and LC shorter and made The Defenders longer.

It will be interesting to see how they handle the pacing...

Sometimes with these marvel netflix shows they devote what seems to be ten minutes, or more, on just one 1 on 1 conversation :lol

I don't mind but if you're cutting down to 8 then you got to cut that kind of stuff out

True. Well the next show with IF in it is The Defenders. The show will show is if our problem with IF is a show runner problem or an actor problem.

it looks like Sigourney Weaver is another corporate hand villain int he defenders

I hope the re-upped on the ninjas because I want wave after wave of ninjas coming after them like in DD2

it's funny that Claire is beating hand members now too and brought the cat claws back with her from China :lol

Better make sure none of those ninjas are businessmen with a pistol or else IF will just run away again

If Sigourney Weaver's character comes at him with a handgun, he will probably just hide behind the homie Luke Cage

*edit

Damn that Harold IF scene is really going to bother me for a long time. Not sure how the director played that footage back and thought that was ok.

I think with the framework and back stories already set up in their respective series, The Defenders should be less about them individually and more about the team aspects. In turn, I'm hoping this opens up more time and energy on developing a good present story with decent action and leaving all the flashbacks, one on one conversations and slow pacing behind. I think the reason for the slow pacing for all these shows is because they have to keep in mind the regular viewer who might not be a comic-book fan to get the whole story behind each Defender. But with their stories on lock, it SHOULD be more about the action and present story-arc. I'm hoping this is the case being it 8 episodes. Otherwise, it'll be another flop for Marvel.

I don't understand the route they went with The Hand in Iron Fist. Even before we were introduced to the "sanctuary", none of them seemed threatening at all compared to the ruthless Hand members we saw in Daredevil. They just seemed like generic henchmen to me. For example, those two bodyguards that Madame Gao had in China? There's no way in hell that one of the masterminds of The Hand would have such ordinary dudes with axes to protect her. Maybe they had to tone them down to match a non threatening Iron Fist?

This is why I think the fault lies much more with the writing than casting.

The humanizing of The Hand was a little weird but I'd happily accept it just to welcome Colleen bae to the fold.

And for the record, I need a maximum of 1 episode devoted to the JJ, LC, CT love triangle, nothing more. We only got 8 eps, don't shaft us :lol

Still waiting for Gao to go full Yoda on us, one scene you see here just doing the force push effortlessly and then the next minute she'd just a defenseless old woman.

I hope she'd just the main villain of the Defenders and just go ham on all four of them.

After much consideration, I have to think I don't like IF much. When I say that, I mean the character.

Fights a dragon to get his powers, and once he gets it he runs away from his responsibility. Annoys the hell out of his 'cousins' to get into the company and once he gets it he screws with the company and ditches all the meetings. He goes a while before he even knows that he got his 'cousins' kicked out. Ditches his best friend without explaining anything to him. Takes down multiple gunman with ease but then by the climax he runs away from a single gunman like a little girl. He ends up getting his whole village killed because of him dipping.

The man is Tony Stark status to me, right below Hawkeye.

Its just rich how he would lose his temper with that one kid for goofing off in class, but he goofed off on his IF responsibility.

Finished up yesterday. Series def wasn't a 17%. I thought the story was paced much better than LC. As someone mentioned a few pages back it was missing something. I stll enjoyed it and give it a solid 7/10.

DD S1
DD S2
JJ - off the strength of Killgrave mostly
LC
IF

I thought I would never want Rosario Dawson to get off the screen but her character is annoying as hell now :lol

Colleen :hat

Yeah Colleen can get that work lol

rand is an idiot. It's rare for me to want the main character to die. Keeps chirping about k'un lun has taught me the hand is bad and I am the iron fist and will destroy them but he left the place and didn't even want to stay there and protect it. How is the hand their great enemy and most of the students never encountered them? Maybe they should learn from stick's group who actually fights the hand regularly.

Also iron fist sounds a lot more hostile than the hand. They sound fanatical themselves.

Yea in the Defenders, I hope he catches that fade..

If not, I hope he just doesn't talk. Like he can only talk if Master Luke, or Master Matt or Master Jessica deems it ok to talk. Like Colleen and Claire should get more Defenders screen time than that man..
