WWE SmackDown Live preview (Mar. 27, 2018) 168 Hours

By Meangene45 Mar 27, 2018, 10:00am EDT
The train keeps a-rollin’ to WrestleMania 34 - WWE’s next stop is Mar. 27 in Pittsburgh for SmackDown LIVE.

The Headliners

A week makes a difference. But how much? In the immortal words of Jon Bon Jovi, “It’s all the same, only the names will change”.

In this space seven days ago, we were pondering the status of SmackDown’s top feud (sorry Royal Rumble winner Shinsuke Nakamura and WWE champion AJ Styles, whose “DREAM MATCH” is a big deal for many of us, but Creative knows that will be the case without adding much to their story - which is why tonight we’ll be getting more of Nak vs. a tag team while The Phenomenal One watches/rests up, with Shelton Benjamin in the role Rusev’s been playing for the last several weeks, and Chad Gable playing Aiden English. At least they’re giving us some lower-case ”dream match”-es as part of the build).

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn had beaten down and local medical facility-ed Shane McMahon, despite his having stepped down as commissioner and booked them for WrestleMania. It looked like he’d return for a tag match against The YEP Movement duo, but who would his partner be?

Then the truly unexpected happened, and Daniel Bryan was cleared on Tuesday afternoon. Now the path seemed set, especially after DB followed up an emotional un-retirement speech by kayfabe-firing KO and Sami, then taking some nasty bumps himself.

Yesterday (Mar. 26) afternoon, however, the script flipped when word came down Shane was not-storyline hospitalized with acute diverticulitis and an umbilical hernia. Now it’s Bryan who’s in need of back-up plan partner for the ‘Mania tag match against Owens and Zayn.

We’ve been heading towards that point for a long time, and especially now that we’ve seen The Beard take an apron powerbomb - and most importantly squeeze the referee’s hand afterwards, indicating he was alright - WWE will not back out from the tease delivered last Tuesday when Bryan stared at the WrestleMania sign. Their official preview for tonight’s show is teasing he’ll “fight through” his injuries to show up and address the fired Superstars (who’ve we’ve seen since their termination last Tuesday in WWE-released videos of them “invading” house shows).

And when he does, we’ll now be asking who DB’s partner should be in New Orleans on April 8.

The Title Scene
Similar to Styles/Nakamura, the upcoming Women’s title match between Charlotte Flair and Rumble winner Asuka is relying on anticipation and mystique. Whether you’re excited about the decorated Queen’s upcoming battle with the undefeated Empress is working depends largely on how much you’ve bought in to each woman’s myth. In the meantime, WWE is reminding us about stories from before Asuka made the decision to challenge Flair instead of Alexa Bliss - and wearing Charlotte down a bit to help soften the blow of the loss she’s likely taking at ‘Mania- by giving us a second staight week of the champ battling old rival Natalya some more this week, with Ms. Money in the Bank Carmella still waiting in the wings.

How do you build to a Triple Threat? With tag matches, of course! Before their three way dance in the Superdome, Bobby Roode and United States champ Randy Orton will pair up (because they’re both ostensibly babyfaces) to fight Jinder Mahal and his lackey Sunil Singh.

Xavier Woods is back! But we still don’t have an official tag team championship match made for WrestleMania. We’ll move one step closer to another possible Triple Threat for the straps currently held by The Usos when New Day try to get some revenge against Bludgeon Brothers for what they did to X at Fastlane.

Other stuff to keep an eye on:
- If you’re not a possible tag partner for Daniel Bryan and you’re a guy, you’re probably going into The Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

- If you’re a lady not named Charlotte or Asuka, you’re definitely going in the WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal. Now can we get Becky Lynch or Naomi a story? It doesn’t have to be as compelling as Sasha Banks vs. Bayley, but... something, maybe?

Two weeks until WrestleMania 34!

What will you be looking for on SmackDown Live tonight?

Shane McMahon comments on his health issues: ‘I’m healing up’

By Meangene45 Mar 27, 2018, 12:46pm EDT
If there was any doubt regarding the nature of Shane McMahon’s injuries or health ailments, as reported on by WWE — who didn’t help matters by keeping it within storyline — all that was removed by the SmackDown Live Commissioner posting the following:

The Wrestling Observer had noted his hospitalization for diverticulitis was legitimate and now this photo comes along to show us just that. That ailment is one Brock Lesnar suffered from during his MMA career, and, according to him, it greatly affected his performance and helped lead to his leaving the sport for a time.

Considering we’re less than two weeks from WrestleMania 34, where McMahon was rumored to be teaming with Daniel Bryan for a match against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, it certainly appears as though WWE is going to have to change its plans. We’re just hours away from this week’s episode of SmackDown, however, so we’ll find out the new plan sooner rather than later.

And, if nothing else, it’s good to see Shane O’Mac healing up with his family.

9 Women Wrestlers From "Camp Moolah" Denounce Allegations Against The Fabulous Moolah

Recent social media outrage has led to the WWE removing the name of legendary women's wrestler, the late Fabulous Moolah's (Lillian Ellison) name from a planned featured Women's Battle Royal, which was to honor her at the upcoming WrestleMania 34 event, set for New Orleans, LA on April 8, 2018.

World Wrestling Entertainment was pressured to remove Moolah's name by the event's sponsor, Snickers, after rumors and unsubstantiated allegations from such names as Sherri Martel, Luna Vachon, & Sweet Georgia Brown, involving Ellison's activities while a performer, trainer, & manager to many female wrestlers became echoed on social media. These claims involve accusations of stealing money, the drugging, & prostituting of female wrestlers who worked for The Fabulous Moolah.

Now, in the wake of these allegations, 9 former female wrestlers who worked for Moolah have stepped forward to denounce these allegations against Moolah, & proclaim her innocence. These women represent many different generations, & many of these women lived for decades at the infamous "Camp Moolah", located in Columbia, SC, where the majority of the rumored wrongdoings are said to have occurred.

You can listen to the testimony of these 9 women on this video

One of the women, Leilani Kai, is a former WWE Women's Champion & lived at Camp Moolah for 20 years: "She had never once drugged any of us" Kai stated on a recent episode of Madusa's Full Throttle Podcast. "She was a champion, she was a booker, and she was a great legend. And she deserves to be honored for enternity…"

One man who has been working diligently to shed light onto this situation is wrestling industry insider, Nigel Sherrod, who has been interviewing former female wrestlers that worked for Moolah ever since the controversy broke. He has interviewed 8 of Moolah's girls, so far, including:

Former NWA Women's Champion, Susan "Tex" Green:"How much (money) did Moolah take from you?" Sherrod asks. "30%" replies Green. "Which... I signed a contract. I didn't have a problem with that… she was putting me in the ring, in front of the people, in front of the writers that put my face & pictures out in magazines. So I took that all in stride." As for allegations of Moolah pimping girls? "… nobody ever came to my room late at night".

"Golden Girl" Lisa Darnell, the youngest trainee ever at "Camp Moolah" at age 16: "She never did anything that was inappropriate at all… And me being the youngest person there, like they said, she was pimping the girls out? That's just ridiculous… I would have been the one she pimped out. I was a young, fresh girl, you know?"

Moolah's daughter, Mary Ellison, who also trained at "Camp Moolah": "I don't know who made up the rumors, but it's a lie… About Sweet Georgia Brown, I don't know who brought that up, but she did go with Buddy Lee (Moolah's Ex Husband) when they split… some of the girls went with him, & some of them stayed with my mother. And the ones that went with him, I wouldn't be surprised if there were drugs & prostitution involved. Which would be back on him, not on my mother."

Brittany Brown, Multi Time Champion: "If anything like that ever did happen to me, I would have flown back home to Boston faster than you could even write her name down… and I'm sure most everybody else that I knew there would've, too… I saw the contracts. It spelled out word for word, by the penny, what percentage she took…. 40 years later or 30 years later, for people to say, "Oh, my God! I can't believe she took 30% of my pay. I should've been getting that." Well, no. You signed the contract. You wanted to be on TV so bad, that 30% was okay with you… Was it high? I don't know, but if you thought it was, you shouldn't have signed it."

Little wrestler, Diamond Lil on Moolah pimping out wrestlers: "That's a lie, it never happened. Whoever's saying that is crazy."

Native American wrestler, and former Tag Team partner of Luna Vachon, Winona Littleheart: "No way. She never pimped me out. And as far as I know, none of the other girls that I know.

Former WWF Superstar, Peggy Lee Leather: "No, she was not a pimp. She was my booker. She booked me for a certain percentage. And all this about being a pimp, it just makes me just almost sick inside. Because that's saying that I was pimped out by The Fabulous Moolah. She was nothing but a business woman. A shrewd one. On allegations by the late Luna Vachon that Moolah forced her to take inappropriate pictures for a local doctor while she was underage: "I think it was Dr. Goldstein, and he liked women's wrestling, and he liked to take photos of them… Moolah would just, you know, approach the girl & just ask them would they like to go out there… I know several of them that went out there… not one of them told me that he did anything derogatory in any way or mentioned anything about sex… When Luna got there, she'd already had two children at that time & she was going through a divorce with her husband… She was in her 20's when she got to Moolah's, she wasn't 16.

Multi Time Champion, Joyce Grable: "As far as I was concerned, she never sent me nobody. And hey, I had a good body, back then. I was kind of pretty, long blonde hair. Especially when I went to Puerto Rico. Mexico. If she was gonna pimp somebody out, I would've been #1 on the list".
