Louis Vuitton puts Virgil Abloh as its new Menswear Designer

Yea, im gonna have to disagree with you there.

Virgil didnt take streetwear to another level. Stussy took streetwear to another level. Jebbia took streetwear to another level. Nigo took streetwear to another level. I could even argue that Ye took streetwear and bullied it into high end. Virgil did none of these things. in addition, would people even know who virgil was without ye?

this is the guy who made been trill and pyrex vision... let that sink in... this guy's design is trash man.

before the nike collab, off white wasnt even popping like it is now. and as stated before, virgil's nike collab (as great as it was) was a complete stolen idea from elisa van joolen (virgil wanted to collab with her. she declined so he took her style and ran off with it).

its cool he's getting his $$. but dont try to give credit to someone who doesnt deserve it.

OW is one of the hottest streetwear brands right now, if not the top. Just cause you dont check for it doesnt discredit it. And before you bring up its longevity, its been around only a few years. You can make that argument 5 years from now.

And he breathed new life into Nike cmon, how can you deny that? :lol

This was my first introduction to him. Who would've thought that this guy would be coveted by LV? Not a fan of anything associated with him, but I wish him continued success.

Remenber this pic from 2008. Trash fits all around

but now you're talking about marketing... which I agree with you... Virgil (with the help of social media) knows how to market well. but to write him off as if he was/is some pioneer for streetwear is just wrong imo. his freaking hoodies are made from champion man... i saw them with my own eyes when I saw in NY. c'mon.. wtaps, undercover, and even supreme has better quality hoodies than off white. Nigo's new brand "human made" has THE BEST cut and sewn t shirts in all of streetwear imo.

Virgil obviously did something right to get to where he is so im not gonna knock that, but he will never be in the same lane with the names' above.

all in all, I respect your opinion. at the end of the day, im sure we both hope Virgil does something great with LV.

Now you def dont know what youre talking about. They have a Champion collab yes, that quality hoodie is miles above your standard Champion hoodie.

Thats always been peoples critique with Virgil, he isnt a true “designer”. OW line has evolved over the years, no leaps and bounds but different cuts, etc. Supreme does the same ****, just different designs. Same cut, maybe a different material here and there if you wanna use them as an example.

He has a platform to show what he can do now though.

off white is popular right now, but it wasnt before the nike collab. he helped nike and nike helped him. theres no arguing that. im arguing before the collab, off white wasnt popping like that. im talking before celebs started wearing those off white x nike AJ1, no one cared about off white.

also, off white is not the top streetwear brand right now. Supreme is, and has been for a while.

supreme is a skateboard brand and though it evolved, its still a skateboard brand in its roots. supreme isnt gonna go try to be paris fashion week ready with its stuff. supreme is a true streetwear brand that started with the skateboard culture in nyc. the rebel ny youth.

also,

a canadian hoodie > any champion hoodie.

FYI, LV and Gucci are actually on the "lower-end" of luxury brands.

Depends on your definition of luxury. But LVMH and Kering (with Gucci being #1) are the leaders in the luxury space for ALL age groups. So we’re talking experiential for younger demographics and classic “luxury” service for the older client.

Luxury is about brand perception.

What’s luxury to a 25 year old is different than a 45 year old vs a 75 year old.

It’s something these brands are having trouble with, within the new generations.

And marketing plays a huge role in that. Not always to quality of goods.

True luxury is time.

But that’s a whole different discussion.

But it is something that I think the younger crowd is beginning to understand.

S: Hermes, Chanel

Nah.. LV is up there with Hermes, Chanel..

If you have an outlet store you don't belong that high..

I copped my ex a prada wallet at the prada outlet store several years back and I was heated when I read made in India :stoneface:No disrespect to my Indian homies but If iIm paying that bread for designer leather it has to come from Italy/france.

Uhh, no.....
Hermes and Chanel are S because a good chunk of their stuff has to be offered to you personally from Chanel and Hermes to be able to buy, forget the price.
Prada is A because a good chunk of their stuff are also 2-3x more than LV.
