Looking For Apartments in NYC?

Hi, I was wondering where can I look for apartments in brooklyn/manhattan mainly. I tried looking through some sites on google and for most you have to sign up and they don't give much info. I also tried craigslist but all of that is room mates/basements. I am willing to pay up to 1200 a month. Any good places to look?
