Accuracy as well, more importantly.

Nah...and the pylon is used for various reasons, but you don't have to put the ball inside of it for a TD.

Then again, they didn't call that a TD, so I guess I don't know **** anymore.

Couple things though:

why would cam even attempt to keep the ball in the field of play if this was not the rule. Many times, people dive towards the end zone. If the ball did not have to go inside the pylon, then people could just dive away from contact out of bounds and break the plane.

Why would the rules be different at the goal line then the rest of the field? The ball is spotted where it is as you go out of bounds. There is a virtual line that goes up, and where it crosses on your way out of bounds, that is where it is spotted. That is why sometimes players extend the ball forward as they are going out of bounds, or shift it to their inside hand as they are going out of bounds. why would it all of a sudden be different on the goal line?

The ball has to be inside the pylon if you are going out of bounds. If you are running with your feet in bounds, then it doesn't really matter where the ball is.

On that play, there was no way to tell if the ball was inside the pylon. Hence, the play stands as called.
