keep the pick and continue to develop our youth, sign young talent

keep the pick , develop along with a star FA

trade the pick for established star, fill voids with FA's and go for a chip

If Mitch & Jim are going to be let go (And if Jim doesn't want to leave, Jeanie can't do anything). But if they are supposedly done after next season if the team stinks... Why would they keep a coach, if they don't think he can get it done. They're fighting for their jobs, how does rolling over make any sense to Kurt Helin

This is a good point.

Unless they think Byron can get it done.

That goes against that Byron tweet. As well as going against the deadline ....somebody is being lied to about something

I think at this point they know he can't get it done. As a matter of fact they prob knew he couldn't get it done when they were hiring him. He was a stop gap and tank commander. They knew why they hired him.

But it would be in their best interest to get a new coach this off season if they want to keep their jobs. That's why keeping him would make no sense. If you no that you only have a year left why would put your faith of your job in Byrons hands to make a push for the playoffs next season (that's essentially what they are shooting for to keep their jobs).

If we keep the pick, he's gone.
If we lose the pick, his office will be cleaned out before he walks back in the green room.
 
In all honesty... I don't really have any problems what Mitch & Jim have done...

And my major problem (hiring Byron), I can point to why that decision was made... I can also ponder whether or not they were given much ability to hire anybody other than Byron.

Have they made some missteps? Absolutely, if they hadn't, we wouldn't have been back-to-back horrible seasons.

But overall, I'm not unhappy at all with how they've done.


They've drafted better than just about anybody in the last few years.
They haven't panicked and looked for a quick fix.
They haven't made trades for trades sake.
They haven't sacrificed flexibility in order to sign guys just to sign guys or taken on contracts to trade guys just to trade them.

Yea I don't know how Mitch is getting thrown under the bus with Buss (pun intended)...and actually I am not that bad at Buss the one thing they mishandled are coaching hires and the Kobe contract.....but I don't know how many other GMs/owners could've navigated us out of the dark like those 2 have.
Are they perfect? No. Do they make the 'correct' decisions all the time? No. But there is no doubt they know what the hell they are doing.
Because of them & a lot of luck we are in prime position to be contending for many years to come and it only took 3 years. It takes most franchises 10 years just get back in contention. And if somehow they manage to keep the pick, sign a legit coach, and make the correct FA signing I don't see why they wouldn't be kept in all honesty. AGAIN, yes they have made some major mistakes but if you judge them on their body of work even in these last 3 years I don't understand how it's not seen that they are better in their roles than 85% of teams basketball operations.
 
As much as basketball reasons is harped on, it's definitely berm used as a crutch for multiple missteps that have taken place since. Not everything can be blamed for Stern's veto. Coaching decisions, roster moves, and incompetent during free agency, they all have to own that. They've made this deadline so if they don't get it done only right their heads roll.

They've literally lucked into maybe 2 top 3 picks through no genius of their own or otherwise this situation would be hopeless.

Yea I get that but I think a lot of people are looking at things like the grass is greener when in actuality it's not. People often make a big deal of their mishaps (& rightfully so because they have been big blunders) but when you look at those individual blunders selectively you can find root causes behind them. And no I don't feel like bringing them all up they have been discussed to exhaustion. I just think the fact that by year 3 we are looking just fine for the future & if we keep this years pick that will cake.

I just think we really don't pay enough attention to the shift that happened in the organization when Dr. Buss died.

We may be looking fine for the future depending on what happens the next couple summers. And again much of that is in spite of what they've done and just happenstance. They're best achievement is has been clearing cap space to try and land big FAs, they've failed spectacularly at doing so. They've got one more shot at it.
 
There's really not much difference in what Buss & Mitch have done, and BEST CASE scenario.


2013-14 was a year that nothing could have been done. We had no cap space even with Dwight leaving, it was all just falling onto the grenade, and try to absorb the blast as much as possible.

Randle & Clarkson were the reward for smartly falling on the grenade.


But even IF Kobe takes 2 year / $20 mil and not 2 year / $48mil.. We sign a team of meddling mediocrity, and cap ourselves out with it.. Or we end up in the same place.. No matter what Kobe took.


What would they have done in 2014-15 Free Agency..

LeBron
Bosh
Bledsoe

All off the board.

Sign Isaiah Thomas, Lance Stephenson, and push even more money at Pau because that was the only other option they had.

And those 3 make us a better team, which means no Russell.. And they likely don't trade for Lin which means no Nance Jr.

They lucked into the pick, obviously because there was a chance to lose it, but they didn't fall into it. There wasn't any other moves there.

A lot of "haven't done all that bad" is frankly blind luck.

If Melo takes their offer, we're DOA. They stupidly offered him the moon, he luckily said no.

They don't get credit for lucking into picks, that would have cost themselves if one moronic NBA ego said yes.

Luck, luck, and more luck has kept them from complete and utter failure, and we're not out of the woods yet if they try to get "aggressive" and deal these cheap kids for hapless vets with some misguided attempt to "contend" in 2017.

If they make it thru this year without trading away all the youth, then I'll give them some credit for staying on the right path.
 
Mitch has drafted well I will definitely agree with that. The free agents that he has brought in are all good contracts... i guess. :lol

Can we (a few) collectively kill all the Cousins trade talk forever? I, as one of the more vocal supports of Boogie to LA, want absolutely nothing to do with that clown on my team.

No matter if we keep the 1-3 pick or lose it, no package of our youth is worth THAT big of a headache.
