7 out of 9 of our posters so far dont want Derozan for 25 million/year.
Hmm........ Guess we're all delusional?

Don't know if you counted me but I don't want DD either...
Melo at 1 point was pretty nice tho...You can't win with players like Derozan and Melo.
No thanks!
At Oak Hill, in Denver, and for USA, yes.
Otherwise, no.

If only NBA basketball was FIBA basketball, Melo might of had some patches on that All Star jacket
For...So you watch Demar play, in these playoffs especially, and say to yourself.... man, it would be awesome to have him on my team?
I wouldn't offer DeRozan a year supply of Daily Cleanser F Him....
Great breakdown, thanks.I voted depends on who you put DeRozan with... But I lean toward Yes.
The fact is he does have talent. His game has grown. And while there are areas he needs to grow, his game has shown growth.
Something to be encouraged about.. He's never been a good 3 point shooter. But this past year was a sign in the right direction.
When he catches and shoots from 3, he shoots 42.2%.
When he pulls up from 3, drops to 20.5%
The catch & shoot is a new trend, up around 10%, but the pull up is around the same 19-21% in the past 3 seasons.
Less he dribbles when he takes a 3, the better.
I looked at Kent Bazemore and Khris Middleton. Kent because he's a FA, and Khris Middleton because I love his game.... Both admittedly better 3 point shooters.
Kent on catch & shoot 39.4% on pull-up 27.5%... Khris 43.6% & 27.5%
Granted they also did it on much more 3 pointers per game. About 2.5 more 3s per game.
The object is to get a motion offense, and find ways to get him open, catch and shoot a bit more.
But he still has to improve from 3, and drop a couple mid-range shots for Catch & Shoot 3s. With his ability to score in the paint, and draw fouls, it improves his efficiency.
He made steps to improving his shot selection, has to continue making those changes.
If he doesn't and reverts back to not shooting 3s at all, then he loses a lot of luster.
On playoff struggles. The Raptors are a classic not built for the playoffs team. They are talented, at least enough to get wins in the regular season. But their lineups and reserves is really a mishmash of bad building.
Their offense is very rigid. DeRozan is the only guy you would really consider a scorer.
Other than Lowry & DeRozan, and occasionally Jonas (who Lowry / DeRozan have little to no impact on). They are a team of meh with very little impact players for the playoffs.
When Lowry struggles, and he's been really bad. It then impacts DeRozan because the offense stalls.. When DeRozan struggles, it impacts Lowry and around and around we go.
As for saying DeRozan has no pull whatsoever on players in Free Agency is just basing it because you don't like the player. He isn't KD. Or LeBron. Obviously. But he's still an all-star, who we hear nothing about him being unliked in NBA.
If you were to say Dwight Howard no longer has pull in Free Agency, then that's something we can tangibly put value on.
Signing an All-Star like DeMar entering his prime (while there are better options, I agree. He isn't my first choice, nor is DeMar the first guy I'd go after). Him signing with us, is actually still a good thing for the franchise. You'd get an all-star entering his prime. That will have pull. Team will improve. Which is also good in Free Agency.
You want signs that the team is going in the right direction. DeMar DeRozan would be something tangible.
Let's put it this way, you sign Kent Bazemore, not only are you not getting a player that isn't nearly as good as DeMar.... Granted better 3 point shooter, and a better defender. DeMar is the better overall player. Highlights how much of a gap there is on offense between the two outside of Kent, who is a good, but not great 3 point shooter. But also, the pull Bazemore has on Free Agents is pretty much nothing.
If you're Hassan Whiteside... Bazemore isn't moving the needle at all. It could even hurt. If it's DeMar, there's a lot more to consider.
Bazemore is also same age as DeMar.
Savage
Are you saying we shouldn't be "proactiv" in signing him?
Harrison Barnes or BazeOkay. Then you have $60mil. How do you spend it?
No trades for Butler, George or Cousins. They're not realistic.
Let's safely assume KD, LeBron and Nic Batum are unlikely to leave as well. Because that's a pretty safe bet.
So let's play "Spend the Buss' money"
*Remember what you don't use, probably goes to Clarkson. And if you spend it all, then 2017 we're capped out.
