What I mean is, when they rap are they talking to their homies on Oblock 600/Lamron/whatever? Or are they talking to the whole world? They're gonna have to decide at some point
This drill music basically started out (and still very much is) a gang thing. When I listen to Back From the Dead, I can tell its on some gang ishh but what makes it work is that Keef stuck to that one theme. That's what I thought Free Crack and Fazoland were gonna be (except much better flow/lyrics wise), based on the songs they'd been doing Herb and Bibby were killing that type of music.
Instead what I heard was a mix of Chicago drill type songs, vs songs that had more mass appeal or maybe belonged on a different project. Almost like they were too 'good' or too technical to be on a drill mixtape.
It's obvious that Herb and Bibby are on another level from the rest of these Chicago dudes. Herb especially could have that Meek Mill type crossover appeal. Imo they should have dropped these mixtapes purely for the streets, then focused on rising beyond that moving forward. That's why I said they needed someone advising them, tell them just stick to that Keef/Gucci formula of giving the streets what they want on the mixtapes, then showcase your other abilities on industry features and future projects. It seemed like they were trying to be too diverse and crammed too many concepts into one project.
I see what your saying much more clearly now, but the only problem with doing that is that Drill doesn't necessarily give them opps to really show off their talents.. so with the hype the have surrounding them it may be dangerous for their careers to do just straight up Drill **** in fear of getting typecasted into that scene where GBE is prettty much dominating. IMO they don't do those Drill songs as well as Keef or Durk so just doing that style would have made them seem like biters/ inferior.
I think both of them can do real street music and talk to their hood while also having a more diverse sound to do it but your correct in the idea that maybe they need someone to produce or exec produce a whole album for them.
