Trust me, I am EXTREMELY confrontational in person; like, EXTREMELY.
the NT rules kind of encourage generalizations
person A: *insert opinion here*
person B: "you're an idiot for having opinion A"
personal attack, person B gets a warning
person A: *insert opinion here*
person B: "all people with opinion A are idiots"
not a personal attack, no warning
HOWEVER...
(2 things)
First off, it's not just an NT rules thing; it's life. You go around like "Nah, Monica said blah, blah, blah, and straight up, she was just wrong. Like for real. I ain't eem mad, but we all know that was horse **** as soon as she said it," people are going to feel intimidated by you.
TRUST ME.
You go around like "I mean, certain wanna say blah, blah, blah, which is ridiculous to me but whatever," people are going to laugh w/ you and buddy up. Sure, it's fake, but whatever.
BUT...
(here's the second part)
Let's not forget this option, bolded at the bottom:
- person A: *insert opinion here*
- person B (in disagreement): "you're an idiot for having opinion A"
(personal attack, person B gets a warning
- person A: *insert opinion here*
- person B (in disagreement): "all people with opinion A are idiots"
(not a personal attack, no warning)
- person A: *insert opinion here*
- person B (in disagreement): *thinks to self* Crap, did I leave the oven on? Hopefully my supermodel gf will turn it off when she gets back from whipping my Bimmer all over the place."
(the realization that differing opinions is a silly thing to fret about offended no one, upset no one, and confused no one)
