**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

Only way we getting the Deng or Mozgov contract off our books is if we package one of them with the 28th pick. How bad do we need the 28th pick compared to getting Deng or Mozgov off our books?

thats not enough

gonna need to attach  a randle or................d'lo for one of those deals to go out.

keep your eyes on the nets

I think Lakers board is:

1) Fultz

2) Jackson

3) Ball

4) Fox

I know they have the second pick so their board needs only two on it but this is how they probably rank them judging by all the rumors and workouts.

Can't wait til we are no longer a lottery team.  So sick of the debate of who to take when you have so many options.  Its so damn stressful.

Nobody called Fox a shooter, but check his splits for the last half of the season from 3. In addition, Fox's stroke looks better than JJ's stroke. JJ's stroke is ugly/broke & inconsistent.

Also, Fox shot 20% better from the free throw line.

Josh's stroke is definitely inconsistent and may even need a full rework. Fox's shot would definitely be easier to fix but for either player they will take time to develop. I think we are just hung up on comparing players today versus what they will be in 5 years.

Lakers wrapping up research on top picks while keeping trade options open

In New York, just after the Lakers secured the second overall pick in this year’s NBA draft through the lottery, general manager Rob Pelinka made two things clear:

1) He’ll listen if teams want to talk about trades.

2) It’s unlikely the second pick in the draft gets moved.

In the month since the Lakers have been taking and making calls about trading the pick, said a source who requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject. They’ve had scenarios presented to them, and offered their own.

This has been ongoing as the Lakers wrap up their work leading up to the draft June 22. In addition to the second overall pick, the Lakers have the 28th pick in the first round.

Thursday, they are meeting with University of Washington guard Markelle Fultz, widely expected to be taken first overall by the Boston Celtics.

Friday they’ll conduct draft workouts and also visit Lonzo Ball at a location of his choosing for a second meeting. The Lakers have also held double workouts with Kansas forward Josh Jackson. They met with De’Aaron Fox at his Pro Day in Thousand Oaks, at the NBA draft combine in Chicago and in for a workout at the Lakers facility this week.

Ball, whom Lakers president of basketball operations Magic Johnson compared to himself in a radio interview last month, will work out near his home in Chino Hills. The former UCLA star helped lead the Bruins to a 31-5 record a year after the program went 15-17.

Fox had an impressive showing in the NCAA Sweet 16 against Ball’s Bruins, in a game that Johnson and Pelinka both attended.

And Jackson has recently been receiving greater attention from the Lakers.

It is unusual for a top-three pick to be traded once the draft order has been set.

The Portland Trail Blazers were involved in such trades in 2005 and 2006. In 2005 they traded away the No. 3 pick, the rights to Deron Williams, to the Utah Jazz. In 2006, they acquired the draft rights to Lamarcus Aldridge at No. 2.

Memphis traded for the rights to Pau Gasol at No. 3 in 2001, and the same year, Chicago traded with the Clippers for the rights to Tyson Chandler at No. 2. Memphis also made such a trade to acquire O.J. Mayo at No. 3 in 2008.

Perhaps the most significant trade of top-three picks came more than 20 years ago. In 1993, Orlando acquired the rights to Penny Hardaway at No. 3 and sent the rights to Chris Webber at No. 1 to the Golden State Warriors.

What could the Lakers offer in trade in addition to their picks? They’ve talked about not giving up their future in order to address their present. But Johnson recently appeared on ESPN Radio and identified Brandon Ingram, the second overall pick last year, as their only untouchable player.

All this, and a week from now Ball will be on the Lakers anyway....and we all know it......

Sucks to see Fultz in all these Laker gear, I give it a 5% we get Fultz :lol I don't even think Celtics worked any of the top picks besides Fultz.

On the flip side we can be too optimistic when it comes to weaknesses.

I like to look at what they're really good at right now, like if they never turn their weaknesses into strengths do you still want that player? They might improve to the point where the aren't liabilities, but they might never be good at the things they're bad at now.

Lonzo might never be a good defender and he might struggle taking guys off the dribble. Can he still be an all star without those things?

JJ and Fox might not ever be good shooters, how valuable can they be without that?

West’s son, Ryan, the Lakers’ director of player personnel, probably will join the Clippers in some capacity.
[Insert some question about Ryan's abilities.]
Lulz.

The Ryan West news is purely speculation at this point. One "front office executive" said, "you know his son is with the Lakers, so don't be surprised if he decides to join his father" and it somehow became news.

Edit:

Lulz 2x at the edit.

Adding the original post here.

I think the only trade they'll make is one that nets them the #1 pick. May even add a third team into the mix to get Boston a proven star.
