Album is definitely kinda all over the place.

Personally, I can listen from the first track to Gotta Have It and then it starts to get inconsistent.

You listening to it in order?

@ craig .... Well if you're not a fan of Jay then chances are you won't like this

Don't get me wrong, I used to LOVE Jay. BP1 and Black Album are two of my favorite albums. I enjoyed American Gangster a lot as well. I LOVED his verses on So Appalled and Monster. I just feel like a lot of his content I can't get into anymore. Maybe I'm just getting more into lyricism now and this album isnt it. Maybe I'm riding MBDTF too much, but that album told a story from start to finish. Not only was every song pretty damn good, but the album told a story. IMO it was truly a work of art.

I'll give this a few more listens, there are a few tracks I love, but a few I could care less for. No Church In the Wild though

You see I can respect this post - a contrary take on something without the elitist grandstanding.

I think you're underrating Jay on this album though imo. Some of these lyrics are some of the most personal he's been in awhile.

Exactly!! Dudes wanna be A&R's instead of fans..just digest the music for YOURSELF instead of worrying about 'peripheral' stuff. What would your opinion of stuff be if you couldn't log onto a music forum! A lot of what music opinions people have are in response to other people's opinions instead of having formed your own.

same can be said for dude who listened to 2 tracks and start talkin like this is the best thing since Sgt. Peppers

true true. But cmon man you know what I mean though, it's like dudes aren't even giving this a chance. Like they're forcing themselves to hate this album.
They'll appreciate it after the flood of "Mr. Me Too's" to attempt this within the next coming year.
Then we'll see this album receiving the late praise in comparison to the lackluster efforts to come after.

This album isn't an instant classic, because it takes time to tell. This isn't Ye's worst album, ya'll say that on EVERY one of his new albums. You can tell some of ya'll are just reaching and talking out ya *+%$*. This isn't Jays BEST effort, but this damn sure isn't his worst. This is like level 4 Hov. Face it, we aren't getting 96' Jay back, just like the league ain't getting a '96 Jordan back. Same for Ye', we'll get 2003 Kanye back, when we get 2003 Kobe back. +!%+ ain't happening, but he's a better more matured player now. You can hear it in his production and in his flow. So whats there to complain about? Just because they aren't doing the same things they were damn near 10 years ago, this album is garbo? Nah son, miss me with that. Ya'll reaching too hard.

The album is solid. Damn I'd even say an 8.5/10, hell wait till I blast this in the whip, it might be a 9/10.

Opinions are just that, opinion. But some cats in here are talking like they're the law of the music forums

Dudes who are saying the production on this album isn't on some next level +!%+ for hip hop are lying to themselves. This +!%+ is more than an MPC and some pro tools.

Thats why 9th is mad. This album is way out of his lane. Even though he has a great ear for music, this type of production as a whole just is out of his league. You could taste the salt in his tweets

i didn't appreciate that dark fantasy album til months later...i'm guessing a lot of your opinions will change later

This reminded me how much I really wanted a Nas and AZ album.

And the thing with the lyrics is...Kanye can't make Jay-Z rap better. From a purely rapping standpoint, he doesn't push Jay. At all. And Jay has these moments on this album where he zones completely and it's like "whoa"...but then he has these lazy Kanye-like moments where he's just rapping for a while and you can kinda tune him out. That's partly to him being naturally better than Kanye. So he's never going to have to go in crazy to better over the course of an album. It's easy.

That and it really isn't *that* personal. Even the "introspective" things lack a personal touch. It doesn't do anything for me emotionally. Sounds good. Nice millionaire music. But...we get it.

But...Jay snapped on Welcome To The Jungle. My lord.

lmao i cant stop laughing at the foolish comments in here, its a waste of time because Jay Z fans will slurp him until the end of time, and before anyone says something to me I listen to it all, and im not one who like Odd Future or LiL B. Point blank if you saying this album is great your musical taste is a joke. Btw i listened to the CD 5 times just to make sure I wasn't tripping. NT can be such a joke

dudes can't even have a negative opinion without being listed an elitist, gratuitous, or a *gasp* hater

not i can't even talk about this album on a scale of all musical genres because it ONLY a hip hop album so i should ONLY compare it with other hip hip music

dudes sayin anyone with a negative opinion should leave like dudes can't have practical convo's...

enjoy your bukkake
