Are you all not understanding what I'm saying?
You all want to act all elite just because more people are buying nikes...
I could care less if some kid who has never touched a basketball or a dumbbell wants to start rocking them... if it harms you so deeply then go look in the mirror and reevaluate what items you need to define who you are as a person.
You'll be back Kay. The same thing happened to me around 24-25. I was like, I'm done with J's cause I'm too old for that. Then you get tired of wearing shoes all the time and just want to fall back and wear what you like and be comfortable.Originally Posted by KayCurrency

PLUS I'm 25, What the hell do I look like rocking the same pair of Gym shoes that a bunch on 13-17-year-olds are wearing??? Don't get me wrong, I love the Concords...and some of the other older model Jordans and Nike's...But I'd never stand in a long %$! line to purchase them just so I can walk around with the same shoes that Thousands of others are going to be wearing...Not to mention the quality sucks. I used to cop every Air Jordan that came out in high school for stunting purposes... But then I grew out of that. I still respect the collectors, But thats just not my thing...I copped pairs EARLY to stunt... not collect.
I used to Love foams too....But now they're making like 6 colorways a year in mass quantities!!! smh... I hate that.
I respect wale's Shoe game because he gets his kicks 3-8 months in advance, so he aint gotta look like the "mirror image" of the next man... Plus every once in a while he pulls out some gems from back in the day that everyone forgot about.....

I mean, I still buy the newer Hooping shoes to hoop and work out in... And I buy some of the retro Nikes from the 90's to wear casually or to lounge around in, but they have to be a shoe that really means alot to me... Like Griffey's or Foams... But I'd never stand in a long +%+ line or camp out for any shoe. When I buy Gym shoes now, it's spontaneous ...I'll happen to be in the mall and see a pair of retro Nike's that I like and say "damn, I remember those from when I was little but mom's wouldn't buy'em for me..." and I'll buy them... Back in high school I use to buy every pair of retros and current J's that came out...No matter if I liked the Colorway or not...Just to stunt on foolsOriginally Posted by cguy610

Brah, if you can show me where I'm being an elitist, feel free. I'll wait. I couldn't care less what the next man does or whether a 10-year old is wearing the same kicks as me. I like what I like. And I have no issue with more people buying Nikes--all I'm saying is that it sucks having to get lucky to get a pair of shoes online. And it does suck. Ask anyone who has wanted something but wasn't able to get it because it sold out. I really think you're going off on a tangent that OP wasn't even getting at, but that's par for the course....Originally Posted by superblyTRIFE

Must everything be a debate? Honestly, it isn't even up for debate that this Jordan retro thing IS out of control and approaching a new level of hype. So yes, people on NIKETALK, a.k.a. "sneakerheads" are affected by it. Hence we discuss it.
While "sneakerheads" are a very small part of the shoe-buying public, we're on Niketalk dude. For the type of shoes that we on NT go for, you could very easily say that we're on a bubble. Stop acting like you can't put 2+2 together and get what OP was getting at. Unbelievable.
As far as this bubble concept goes, I can't speak for OP, but I'm referring to the HYPE associated with these releases, NOT sales. Hype rises and hype falls....or you could say the "bubble bursts". Not that hard to understand, IMO. This has nothing to do with when the bubble bursts all of a sudden Jordan sales will cease to exist. Again, I'm referring to the HYPE surrounding these releases and how it seems to build steam with each subsequent release. Don't like the choice of the word "bubble"? Feel free to substitute it with whatever gets your rocks off, homie. But surely that critically thinking, science-geared brain of yours can grasp the basic concept. I'd offer some charts, memes and Youtube vids but I simply don't have the time.
But if you were, you'd know that the hype bubble DOES burst. I've been around this stuff long enough to have seen it with Dunk SBs. I've seen it with Air Force 1s. And then it moved to Air Max. And right now? Foams and Jordans. The high resale prices, long lines of campers and the almost unheard of demand all inevitably dwindle due to...drum roll.......LESS HYPE. People move on to the next "it" thing, making things go back to "normal" for those of us who plan to ride with what we know. Again, I can't speak for OP and his bubble concept. But that's mine.
Hype? ...yeah I like that term...because it doesn't mean that the ENTIRE MARKET WILL CRASH.
What you're implying with Bubble is that an entire system will fall. Nike is still selling AF1s, Dunks, and Air Max's...they haven't been wiped from the market. Its supply and demand
Its the same with cycles of rap music or beats from popular producers. One day people stop calling...
A bubble just crashes under its own weight as a result of speculation...NOT because of cycles of consumer demand.
I really don't see how its the same thing.

Dudes in here taking this way too seriously...Its simply supply and demand.
I don't see anyone in here adjusting for inflation of prices either. As far as I can tell I would venture to say that Nikes were literally more expensive a few years ago then than they are now. Very few shoes are hitting that psychological barrier of numbers that we have for ourselves that we could expect with market inflation. But that may be a different story and something I don't have the facts at my disposal to back up.

I was going to respond line for line like you do, but after reading your responses, I'll just say this. You've clearly missed the entire point and you're reaaaaaaaaaching with some of the stuff you're implying from my responses.
Good night, Optimus. Sweet Drizzy dreams tonite.
kay's reason for buying jordans is da reason he burnt out fast....coppin kicks to just "stunt" is type shallow..yea we all guilty of it, but alot of us do cop cuz weOriginally Posted by cguy610

sports fans too..i for example cop for nostalgic reasons, and i like lookin fly. but if i liked being fly without really caring about sneakers it would be easy to
talk in a condescending manner towards people who choose jordans as a platform to express themselves, which is not really fair.
da young demographic though (90's babies) have no kinds of originality whatsoever, i agree with that..however retro anything just FLIES outta stores
compared to anything new from this generation, so its just good business for companies to keep catering to this.
that comments makes no sense whatsoever b.... imma 80's baby, NO ONE put a gun to my head to cop da converse weapons pay homage toOriginally Posted by sillyputty

Who can you really blame for that though? I mean on one hand ya'll would be upset if they didn't "pay homage" but on another hand ya'll want to say that they're "biters without any style"
Besides Lebron and Kobe who are the stars that have the promotional engine behind them to move units like that these days in Nike specifically?
Fair enough. Point taken.Originally Posted by ninjahood

no moses malone, or anything else. back then you was on your own when it came to picking sneakers to express yourself if you wanted to do that at all.
...and da way sneakers were marketed in da 90's were VASTLY different then it is now, im sure people collected, but it wasn't no where NEAR da way it is now.
it was all about da latest and greatest back then...if you had on old jordans back then, you were clowned on...and NYC was so unique to everywhere else in da
US, because if u went to da west, cats were Vans from head to toe...now with da internet da kiddies got a "cheat sheet" on whats supposedly "hot" instead
of them defining it themselves, they letting others dictate it for em.
