Is Peyton Manning the most overrated qb of all time?

So if you have two type of seasons to analyze....one QB is markedly better in one, and they are essentially even in the other, why wouldn't you simply say that the guy who is markedly better in one is the better QB?
I would say that, though.

One is markedly better at QBing Super Bowls.

And the error you're making is a common one: placing a value assumption based on what I'm saying.

If I told you I'd give you $10 for every post of mine containing Manning slander in all my time on here, I'd say I'd give you less than $20, and that's being generous.

I'm not discrediting him; I'm refusing to call what has happened in his SBs to be called anything different than what has happened.

He's 1-2.

Not 2-1.

Not 3-0.

Refusing to call his record anything other than 1-2 isn't discrediting him; refusing to forget how pedestrian he was Sunday night isn't discrediting him.

I was actually cheering for the Broncos, wanted them to win, and I'm FAAAAR more of a Peyton fan than Brady; FAR more.

But you are what your record is.

He's 1-2, and it absolutely is in large part because of his performances.

TO EVERYONE THATS SAYS THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN TOM LOOK AS SHOOK AS PEYTON DID ON SUNDAY CLEARLY DIDN'T WATCH THAT Pats/Jets playoff game a couple years back.

I still think Brady is the most clutch today though :lol

Well it wasn't subpar for the AFC at the time. What would've been impressive is if he was even close in any of those games (referring to the SBs)

We gotta face facts. This is the NFL. Big time QBs crap their pants all the time come playoff time and they are not guaranteed anything....especially playing against another top team that day. Manning has been a huge disappointment many times....but so have his peers.

During those Super Bowl contender years....Elway didnt play with any Pro Bowl running backs or recievers.....Elway's AFC contemporaries like Marino, Kelly, Boomer, Kosar and O'Brien handed and threw the ball to Pro Bowlers.

Marino-Clayton and Duper
Kelly-Thurman Thomas, Reed and Lofton
Moon- Jefferies, Rozier, Givins, White
Boomer-Brooks, Brown, Holman
Kosar-Ozzie Newsome, Mack, Slaughter
O'Brien-Toon

The three amigos were pretty solid, Winder wasn't bad either

At this point we are just discussing QBs. Off to the QB thread?

We have to discuss other quarterbacks if we are talking about Peyton Manning being overrated.

Its who is he overrated relative to

The OP couldn't start a thread "Peyton Manning is a bum".....that would get locked

Was actually set to make a post to you or Ska asking if there's a way to just merge this into the QB thread. I'll update the title if need be.

Brady is frightening in the 2 min drill , i dont think theres any debating that . Panthers fans must have been ******* themselves at the end of that game this year . its the reason why dude on the Dolphins was almost in tears of joy after getting the last second pick to seal it in week 15

Brady also put the team in field goal position to win against the Rams and Panthers in his first two super bowls

you have to just ignore Chester , or he wont stop
I went all the way to Miami for that game too. Would've locked up home field had we won

That MNF game against the Pats, I was too nervous cause I thought we left Tom too much time on the clock. Especially after what he did to the Saints earlier in the year...imo a bit of the collective fear/luster relative to Brady's clutch-ness has died down, but #12 is still the last QB I wanna be on the opposing side of in a game winning situation.

The thing that frustrates me in the conversation is how people offer rebuttals like "Oh, so just 1 game and he's knocked from glory? If he would have won, he'd be 2-1 in the SB, and he'd be argued CONFIDENTLY as the GOAT. But 1 game, and now he's buns?"

Nah, man, not 'buns'.

And...

Nah, man, not 'just one game'. It was the way he played. He looked soooo pedestrian. So Seattle's D was relentless, I get that. Who do you want him to play in the Super Bowl? The Crimson Tide? No matter who you play in the SB, it's going to be another top defense. No one's getting to the SB with a defense ranking at the bottom of the league for that year.

He flat out wasn't prepared.

And that's on him.
It's his fault both tackles are getting shoved back into his hip pocket every time he takes a drop back?
Oh, I'm sure he'd've won on Sunday if he had no pressure and Russy was still pressured.

I mean... some of his key turnovers in the game was forced by his tackles getting pushed into him...

the manning bros. always get passes or excuses for turnovers. anyone else would get crucified. god forbid tony romo ever have a 4 turnover game in the Super Bowl. dude would probably get run out of the league :lol

Tony Romo could throw for 5 TDs and 500+ yards with 1 pick and he'd still get more blame than Manning did this week

...oh wait, that actually happened

maybe peyton has gotten multiple passes (he has), but not eli and definitely no way has eli gotten a pass this past season

winning trumps everything so when your team wins you're less susceptible to that kind of criticism

eli's INTs are all the fault of receivers and 240lb TEs that don't have NBA verticals
