Is Peyton Manning the most overrated qb of all time?

Peyton and the Broncos got worked and should be hammered on today.... but this is also a team sport with lots of other variables -- this aint individual golf or tennis and kids and media often fail to ever factor that in. These QBs won these SB's:

SB XL - Ben Roethlisberger - 9-21, 123 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT
SB XXXV - Trent Dilfer - 12-25, 153 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT
SB XXXII - John Elway - 12-22, 123 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT
SB XXVIII - Troy Aikman - 19-27, 207 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT

It's not just 2.5 hrs, it's the constant choking and let downs in the Games that matter. He just flat out doesn't get the job done when it matters the most...Football version of Melo, makes the game look effortless but gets to the postseason and can't make it happen.

Don't disrespect Melo like that.... Melo has never shrunk or been less of a player in the postseason than he is in the regular season... Peyton Manning is basically Lebrons 2011 Finals performance.... accept it's been like that his whole career.

comparing manning to melo is an insult to both melo and manning

Yeah man. I just find it hard to say Peyton had a bad game after watching that last night. It wasn't a case of a bad game. It was a case of a superior team exercising their will. It's not like there were a ton of missed passes or anything. Every one of Manning's 34 completed catches was immediately contested by 2 or 3 Seahawk defenders. I mean, we can say as a team they had a bad game b/c of all the mistakes on offense and lack of playmaking on defense, but I can't honestly say Peyton should shoulder all the blame. I think this is the first year where we can definitively say that defense wins championships. The number 1 offense vs the number 1 defense, and this was the result. Seattle took it to them. To say Peyton had a bad game discredits what Seattle's defense was able to accomplish.

Repped. Most sensible post this thread has seen.

no offense..but people been saying "defense wins championships" for YEARS. it's been proven over and over again. yesterday wasn't some revelation of this :lol

The secondary is probably one of the best I've seen, but front 7 there have been better so I can say best ever overall.

85' Bears had the best front 7 and best pass rush ever.

As for the Giants, they had a better pass rush (moreso in 07' with better linebackers too) than Seattle....Seattle's pass rush just played excellent yesterday.

Panthers and 49ers front 7 are even better imo.

Overall, the Seahawks defense is the best I've ever seen. Reason being, the NFL today is a completely offensive league. A league that is designed for teams to put points on the board at a premium. The Seahawks defense stuck their collective middle fingers up at that notion and had their way with a ridiculously prolific offense.

Going into the game, I thought that the Seahawks would win...but not in the fashion they showed last night. I mean, ****...the Broncos had a 15 play drive....for 49 ******g yards....49. :eek Unreal.

Obviously, they have a long way to go before we start talking dynasties or anything along those lines...but they are really young, have competence in the FO, and are nearly impossible to beat at home. There is no reason to think that the Seahawks won't be in the SB next year. They are in REALLY good shape going forward.

Also, what about the 12th man? They travel well...like, extremely well.

He has turned the Broncos from a average team to a top contender sense he has joined, set single season records this season in TDs and passing yards. He might not be GOAT, but he isnt overrated.

Seattle seemed to travel/show up VERY well last night. What is the difference between now and in 06? Location? Strength of team? Opponents fans? Actually curious, not trying to start something

The Giants weren't as good as the Seahawks in any way, shape, or form.

Still, to go 18-0 and lose... that's the biggest chokejob I've ever witnessed in my life. Easily knocks him down 3 or 4 pegs on the All-Time list.

How was it the biggest chokejob when your boy Peyton just gifted two of the worst picks in recent superbowl memory and got blown out 43-8? Tom Brady was a 4th and 28 david tyree once in a lifetime catch and a wes welker drop away from winning 5 damn rings. If thats your way of trying to credit Peyton by trollishly discrediting Brady, then you gotta go back to your Peyton Manning fathead and look for more ideas bro.

FWIW, I don't think Peyton is overrated, but I do group him along with Brett Favre as far as the all-time greats go.

The defense was damn impressive all season, too strong, big and fast, they fly everywhere on the field. There was no chance a dink and donk Broncos offense was going to beat them.

12th man does travel well, but so did ravens fans last season. When teams get good, every team travels well lol. IMHO Steeler fans travel the best and I aint no Steelers fan.

They never produced a team that good and most of all, Social Media has exploded since 06

Denvers o line just couldnt dominate Seattle the same way they had been dominating other opponents throughout the playoffs. That defense is also not used to playing from behind

:lol Yea that's true, by agreeing I wasn't tryna imply that it's a newfound theory by any means. I just thought throughout the game that Peyton didn't play AS bad as some were saying. Yea the picks && fumbles were there, but DEN's OL play was horrible from Jump Street && SEA's pass rush in particular was just murderous. Not trying to make excuses for #18 (had no preference, I just wanted a close game :lol), but, imo if you replaced Peyton with any other QB last night, && I don't think much changes with the aforementioned factors. Big props to the Hawks for ballin lights out on the biggest stage.

yeah i don't think any QB had a good chance of beating SEA yesterday...BUT...i know there's a handful that would put up more than 1 score on that defense

Jeff Garcia scored as many points as Tom Brady did on that Giants defense. Only difference, the Bucs weren't undefeated and being lauded as the greatest team of all time. You may not remember (or are trying to forget) the 18-1 year, but I definitely do. People called the Broncos the best offense of all time this season, but those same folks were calling the 2007 Patriots the BEST TEAM of all time.

IF hadn't done... IF didn't catch..

Tom Brady choked. It happens. His chokejob ended an undefeated season, tho.

Why does it matter if you label it "Best Team" or "Best Offense". Last I checked, Brady and Manning only play on offense ( unless you think your boy also plays safety or something). And like you said, this Broncos team was appointed the Greatest OFFENSE of all time. Brady gave his team a 14-10 lead late in the 4th and his defense faltered. You act like the Pats went into the game and got blown out ala Peytons team yesterday. The chokejob level between the two games isnt even close IMO.

And for the record, I dont even like Tom Brady. But to label Brady as a chokejob in hopes of shedding that same label off Manning is baffling.

I don't think people are understanding why people are claiming Peyton is overrated. He's easily a HOF but that's not where the talk ends with him i have come across dozens of people who have claimed that's he's the best EVER

Not just top 10
Not just top 5
not even top 3, just the best ever under no circumstance should he be mentioned in that vein when he's CONSISTENTLY lost games he was suppose to win and looked horrible in the losses.

You can't claim someone is the best at what they do when in the biggest moments that person under performs at what they have excelled at in smaller moments. As long as he's mentioned in the greatest of the greatest convo he's overated.

After last night along with his numerous terrible games in the playoffs how can anyone sit here and say he's the best because i guarantee you if they needed a QB for one game he's not top 5 on the list.

People are on here claiming that their defense might go down as the greatest of all time. When teams with bad offenses were putting up points against them.
Their not, but they are up there.
To be clear, I never stated I thought they were the best defense ever. Just the best defense I've ever seen. And I wasn't even really referring to the entire season, just this one game. That game last night was the single best defensive effort I've ever witnessed in a playoff game. It was completely lights out football. Overall they will be looked at as one of the best for certain, but you place that one game in a bubble and there's not enough hyperbole that can be used to describe it. Simply dominant. I know a few people have mentioned that other teams were able to score more on Seattle in other games but the point I was trying to make is that no one was doing jack against the Seattle that showed up last night. That was their peak.

Yes it's been said but I don't know if the majority of folks, myself included, ever truly believed it. It's always been kind of a mantra for coaches that fans and analysts just repeat. Think about it like this, if you had to choose between your team being the #1 offense in the league, or the #1 defense in the league, I feel like most would go for offense. Especially in this day in age. But after last night, man I'm taking a dominant defense from hereon out lol. I just feel like this cemented the phrase as a truth.

Agreed with JJ. Had a feeling Seattle would win but they really exceeded my expectations. YAC was not happening last night, if you could even get your hands on the ball without getting whalloped. I wouldn't be surprised to see a rematch next year.
