I'm not talking about an "AWW HELL NAW!" kind of no either (because I LOVE Tribe and MM is bonkers),but more of an "it's close,but not quite" kind of no (if that makes sense).
just makes me delighted when people say its very close to Illmatic which goes to show that it is a Great Album
its not messing with Illmatic at all on the lyricism, but its more complete and thoroughly put 2gether
even still, Illmatic is equal to MM, so its sometimes like a flip of a coin to see which is the better album

Hard to compare two classic albums. But as far as Midnight Marauders goes I actually like Low End Theory more than that albums. But then once again in that case it's just hard to compare two classic albums. All of them are great and it's a time in Hip-Hop I wish still existed.

Unlike most album comparison threads, this is actually a good one. With that being said, I still would go with Illmatic though, it truly set the bar for alot of albums that came after it. I can see how and why some folks would like MM more. Illmatic is just pure perfection and is a perfect display of what hip hop is all about.

I live these two albums here. MM IMO created jazz-rap during a time where gangsta rap was really dominant with Doggystle and The Chronic even they put Low End and Peoples Travels before. MM was their best and got them attention. They were a lot different than most rappers then Illmatic was similar to the rugged lyrical style of a few NY rappers (WU, BIG etc)
If I had a gun to my head, I'll prolly chose OB4CL right before he pulled the trigger because I still wouldn't have an answer for this question.

at first, I couldn't get pass "Excursions" because the song was sooo dope I didn't want to proceed to hear the rest of the Album yet since I had it on repeat

Musically MM is superior but overall importance and hip-hop brilliance goes to Illmatic.
But someone was right when they said it's one of the 4 or 5 who can be in that conversation.
