Anyone have experience with Web Developer interviews? 8o

Money is getting tight around the house, so I thought I might as well apply since I have a programming background. I'm curious what types of questions they would ask and what to expect, in general. Thanks in advance, fam!

I tried the self-study route, but I need actual instruction I guess after attempting to go from 0 to 100 and falling on my face with more questions than answers after some chapters. I give the ones that are able to a lot of props

I'm definitely taking the cert.. My job thought it would be a good idea for me to go for this.. A lot of the material was stuff i learned in high school (I'm in my mid twenties now lol)... Luckily I've actually had quite a bit of experience with the topics covered---so i'm learning.. I was shocked to know that I remember a good deal of some of the stuff covered in the first book (networking fundamentals and stuff)

Currently I do governance within InfoSec at my company...So I work quite a bit with the creation and modification of policies and standards.. As well as the exceptions some groups may request when they can't comply with those standards or policies..

It's been a aspiration of mine since high school to work in InfoSec. I was really blessed to be given an opportunity to transition over being only a few years in my career.
 
@CincoSeisDos I start Monday at HCC. I take the Sec+ on Friday. Been grinding hard studying, wanted to get it before the CCNA class

Came up with a killer idea yesterday that I hope to monopolize on.

Had to pull back out my HTML for Dummies and reinstall Dreamweaver. Kinda wish I could just outsource all the grunt work overseas so I can focus on idea execution.

Could make a decent amount of cake very quickly.

I made my career out of cisco networks. Don't want to rain on your party but cisco is severely outdated and you can tell by its shares. Cisco network configuration protocols have been around for at least the past 12+ years. That is unheard of in the software community. Recently they had to lay off 8000 employees. If you want to really get ahead and stand out, study programming and software defined networks (SDN) along with cisco / juniper and routing. Network configuration has to be automated. This will be the next big thing. The issue is that companies are hesitant to experiment with the latest technology with their live networks. But as soon as they realize the cost savings, they will go for it.

With that said, 99% of the companies out there rely on cisco and juniper experts. Network engineers are still getting paid big but I would expect a major haulover in the way networks are designed and configures in the next 5 years.

I actually had just read about this. I still see a lot of job postings for Cisco so I'm excited to get this CCNA. Apparently, there is no official SDN study guide, so as a newbie I wouldn't know where to begin. But after I knock out this CCNA cert I'm definitely going to look into it and get on it
 
Just got my full time job offer for a cyber software developer position with the company i interned with this summer :hat . The salary is 5K less than what I wanted , but is still pretty good for entry.

Feels good to know where I'm going to be working 4 months before graduation.

Thanks Henny! Yeah man it was a tough decision, but pretty much came down to the clearance, type of expierence, and salary.

What are the best certs to get if you are looking to break into the industry with a desktop support job? then build up more once employeed? thanks!
 
wrightone86 wrightone86 Thanks man I am really siced about the clearance. Nobody (defense contractor wise) is sponsoring right now for recent grads I got lucky. They only want recent grads who already have the clearance smh. I am nervous about the process.

Where does CCNA stack into the equation? I'm hearing various opinions from pointless to useful, to
you'll still be broke with no experience withthe CCNA. Looking to make a career change and
have been thinking about CCNA for awhile.

I mainly want to get it to prove to myself its obtainable.Listening to the net you'd think
its some impossible certification to get, smh. But moving forward
I want something that's going to get my foot in the dooralong with using my degree if the
company in Environmental related.

I've heard people say they didn't get a call until they put CCENT or CCNA on their resume, don't know what jobs they were putting in for. But for help desk you usually just need at least one of the A+ Net+ or Sec+ certs
 
You will get calls with the CCNA on the resume, but just make sure you can talk the game along with it. Experience never hurts to pair but as long as you not applying for senior positions with no experience you will be fine.
 
Got my first CIS class today.

Also taking Programming I w/Java.
