INDIE Music Thread

I'm not sure if I would classify XXYYXX as indie music; however, that self-titled album he dropped was really great.

Well I figured all his work is pretty much just found on indie blogs and soundcloud pages :lol but I guess the thread is more geared towards indie rock?

New to the Indie game. I need a late pass for that Of Monsters and Men album. This is a dope album :hat

Anyone going to see Wild Nothing in NY this weekend? I'm going Sunday, rolling solo and have NO idea what to expect. Never been to an indie show, never gone to a concert alone 8o Tickets were 20 bucks after ticket fees though, I felt like I committed a crime getting tickets so cheap. :smokin

Anyone ever hear of Tri State Indie? Small independent music publication out of Philadelphia. I've heard cool things about them. Would like to know if anyone else has.

Man I went to see Silversun Pickups at Ram's Head Live in bmore. They were great btw. But Atlas Genius opened for them (really impressed). And Cloud Nothings was the second opener.

Anyone listen to Cloud Nothings? I met the lead singer Dylan outside after the show. Dude was mad chill and only 21 years old. Kicked it with him talking music and his life for about half an hour. Really made me a fan and will purchase their newest (jan release so not really new) album Attack on Memory.

Spoon - Out Go The Lights

My favorite track from Spoon. BTW, Sky Ferreira is not an indie artist. She's signed to Capitol Records, which is a major label...

Yeah it's been mentioned that Sky is from Capitol which makes her more of a pop artist I guess....? On her Soundcloud she labels the genre as Indie so idk. Regardless, the music is great.

It's CMJ now. Not really all that pressed to see anything except for METZ, Unicorn Kid, and Sky. I'll probably be going to some day parties on my lunch break, so if I see anything good I'll let y'all know.

In other news, the new Tamaryn album is really great. Highly suggested from this guy.

I need details on those three CMJ shows. Only show I had planned to go see was the Arbutus showcase with TOPS and Blue Hawaii.

Maybe make my way to see the Captured Tracks showcase too. Maybe.

Grizzly Bear - Yet Again (live on Later With Jool Holland)

Nice performance...Might be my favorite rock/indie release of the year...

METZ - Wet Blanket, Headache, & Wasted

Slept on this album. Gonna have to pick it up...

On Friday Sky and METZ are playing the Brooklyn Vegan day party at Public Assembly. I'm going to the Unicorn Kid show at the Flowerbooking showcase that night, he is playing at 1AM. Might see UK at Night Spa tonight too, but I'm not sure yet, though.

You know, I'm listening to the new Metz release. It's good but every song is pretty much the same song...I love noise rock, but damn...These guys needed a strong producer to help them edit & make a more diverse album...

Work all day on Friday so that show is out of the question... might be able to make it to the Unicorn Kid show that night however...

So other than that Arbutus showcase on Saturday, there's also a Gorilla vs Bear showcase on Thursday with TOPS, Flume, DIANA, Kilo Kish, and Ryan Hemsworth. Also on Thursday is the SubPop showcase with METZ and King Tuff.

I'm a big fan of Cloud Nothings. I wanted to go to the show here but I couldn't plus Terminal 5 is the worst. Oddly enough, I met Brian Aubert from SSPU 3 or 4 years ago and he was very cool...short, definitely high too.

I wish I could've gone to the Local Natives show last night, one of my favorite bands. Tickets were sold as a "surprise headliner" and sold out, it wasn't announced that it was them til last week. They'll be back in February though. :\

New song:

Couple old ones:

GvB showcase tonight was excellent.

New band called Empress Of were really impressive.

Band from SF, Sam Flax, were great too. Reminded me a bit of Ariel Pink.

Never heard of this dude but ForteBowie was pretty dope. Maybe the wrong venue however. He's an ATL rapper/singer and I thought he did really well for the crowd he played...

TOPS killed it. God, I love them. I'm going to go see them again at DBA on Saturday.

the last act I saw before I left was Flume. His set was WAY too short. This kid is going to blow up.

PLenty of good music in here.

Saw Junior Boys perform a while ago I highly recommend their music.

Sura, what do you think of the new Emeralds, it's out there. Not sure what to think. Was not expecting to sound like it does.
