Yup, my last company I was at, started out the back of his garage with like 3-4 friends of his. They received awards for INC's 100/500 fastest growing private companies ( I think that is what the plaques had). Multiple years. Fast forward 10 years and he had a company with over 350+ people and sold it to ManTech for $85 mil cash
Edit: He was smart with it too. Started a real estate company and bought the building that the company was based in a "SCIF" the space off and started talks with GMU about being a remote site in another part as well. Signed like a 10 year contract for the space before he sold it to ManTech and they stuck to it. He still makes like $30k/month or something just off of the rent of the space
His kids worked there too and when they went to college, he wrote it off as he was paying for an employee to go to college
Very nice. Good ol' Mantech. Ha. People will pay big dollars for the entrepreneurial mind.
