If You Are Looking for/Interested In Working With The Federal Government...Come In. Positions Availa

As a former Contract Specialist, I must say the job is extremely mundane/stale as you are essentially a paper pusher. The workload is never ending and depending on your personality/preferences might be a pro or a con. It pays well and you can jump Grades quickly to get more pay, but you will make far more in the Private Sector ($110,000 for a good Contracts Manager is easy).

I just got back from Miami a few days ago and I'm a beach person so I would prefer that to the terrible traffic in the DMV and shifty weather.

This helped a lot. Thanks.

Anybody ever worked in Ft Huachucha? I keep getting offers from there out of nowhere, even a job that overlooked me here told me if I relocate there they'll give me 85k

I worked with people at the VA in Phoenix/Mesa that are stationed there for duty/work. You would be right on the border of Mexico if you go out there.

What do you need to know? That's my hometown (Sierra Vista)

Id only go there if youre going there for the money. Gotta drive an hour to Tucson/ 3 hours to phx to hit a club/nightlife. Nothing to do there.

Good Contract Specialists are like unicorns right now. There's so much turnover with them in my organization. Even the Branch Chief of our Acquisition Directorate has changed like 3-4 times in the past 5 years. I feel like the few good contract specialists they have pick up everyone elses slack, get sick of it, and move on to a different job. Like one of our contract specialists who I enjoyed working with just got a degree in architecture and left to go to do that. She is definitely missed.

My friend from college who is a litigation lawyer was actually interested in working as a contract specialist. I asked him why the **** would he want to do that? Says he knows it's a lot of work but it can't be as bad as what he's doing now

Anyway I just resigned from a 0501 series GS-12 position as a Financial Analyst. So there will be an opening here soon. Though I did hear they may trade the GS-12 billet to another division and do a GS-5/7/9 to replace my position because I actually started as a GS-4. jesusshuttlesworth34 jesusshuttlesworth34 maybe you can tell me how some NTers could apply to replace me if they are interested. Once the hiring freeze is up they will definitely need to put someone else in my position.

Hiring Freeze has been lifted.

I'd stay away from regulatory agencies in the Executive Branch.

That's one thing I think only a person in HR could assist with. Federal hiring is a convoluted mess that is hard to navigate.

Congrats @Hennessy  I know your happy, I can't wait until I can quit corporate.

Just arrived to Japan for my overseas assignment yesterday , today will be my first day of work.

Looking to do 5-6 years overseas (coming back to the states at age 30) , so this should be an interesting chapter of my life.

What are you doing overseas and what was your journey.
Systems engineering , I had been in contact with the hiring manager for about 8 months internally.

I had to get a certification and have a specific clearance then they called me in for an interview.

From job req posting date to deployment was a 2.5 month process.

accepted an offer and was given a targeted start date of May 1, but the public trust clearance is still being processed (was fingerprinted back on 4/6)

im trying to give my two weeks notice to my current employer as of today, but if my clearance is not processed by May 1, will i even be able to report?

Your new employer should push the start date to a later date/until you get your clearance.

Same thing (kinda) happened to me. I wasnt able to start until my background check was complete and I got my government badge. It was taking forever so I let my employer know. they said its fine and that they'll change my start date until I get my badge.

much appreciated, how long did the clearance take for you?

What's the best way to finding job openings govt/contractor that require secret clearance?

May want to start looking around and seeing what other opportunities are out there.

my bad I forgot to mention I dont have a clearance as it wasnt needed for my work. but i had through gov background check, fingerprints, etc. whole process took about 3 weeks. I work as a contractor for the feds.

just heard from the PM, she said that they should get everything processed and settled by the 1st, so ima just go ahead and give my resignation

if i have to sit for a bit between my last day of my current gig and my first day of the new one, well then ill just have some time to kill...

Add a keyword of Secret or select Secret in the search filter for Clearance type.

How long does a periodic re-investigation usually take, and do they always send out an investigator for an interview?

Folks interested in IT in the DMV that are looking to break into fed contracting should look into NMCI | NGEN | COSC or whatever the hell its called now for the NAVY. Its not glamorous but its a great stepping stone and can get you a clearance and a foot in the door to other contracting opportunities. You just need to look attractive to the recruiters.

The requirements are not that bad and they are in need of bodies as the region is understaffed at many sites such as Navy Yard. They are mainly looking for people with the following:

- at least high school education (2 years or more of college preferred)
- a bit of an IT background
- comptia a+ (security+ is preferred) (i believe windows 10 training / cert from Microsoft is a new requirement that will soon be needed as well)
- and eligible for secret clearance

companies on this contract include:

SOC LLC (Dayzim/YOH)
McKean Defense
Strategic Data Systems
Apex
Insight Global

had an interview for my secret clearance last week

lady arrived at 1400 didnt leave till like 1800 pretty in depth interview
