I STILL need a new gun...

^Agreed on the .38 sp

I would say good starter carry guns are a good 38sp, a good compact 9mm (I prefer the glock 19, but the xd is a pretty good choice as well).

Course I am a fan of the 9mm, and aside from the low capacity and bulky nature of revolvers I do like them. Just hard to beat out a good auto.

Nah... no tricks. I just doubt those same people would come in this thread just to repeat themselves. NOW we can talk artillery.

I was thinking 38sp cuz I like that I wouldn't have to pick up shells and stuff...

don't worry about shells, just don't shoot people you are not supposed to. revolvers are much harder to learn to shoot and give you limited capacitytoo.

... you got it. How are they harder to shoot though?

(the limited capacity is buns too. I kinda like the way 30s look inside of .40s

They require more control than rifles do because of the overall size and with a rifle you have the butt in your shoulder to steady it more. Ohand don't stick a loaded revolver in the front of your pants...bad things can happen.

The safety tip I was raised with was: Always treat a gun like it's loaded, and never point the barrel at anything you wouldn't shoot.

^'Preciate the advice. Lord knows I ain't tryna Cheddar Bob myself.

revolvers are harder to learn to shoot for two reasons. First the gun is a curve in nature (like holding a banana where as an auto is a bit more like a capitolL on its side)rather than an auto so they are in essence rolling the recoil up, were as an auto drives the recoil straight back ( it is how the gun cycles). Sothere is not only more felt recoil in a revolver cause the gun absorbs zero recoil, but also the recoil rolls up causing more muzzle flip. Not to mention thefact that your standard revolver is a double action/single action gun, so the first trigger pull is very stiff since it has to rely on the trigger pull to %%!%the hammer, after the first shot the gun itself cocks the hammer, so it has a varied trigger pull between the first and second and follow up shots.

Some autos work this way too, my glocks on the other hand have the same trigger pull from the first shot to the last.

Oh... I guess that makes sense... what else?

I'm actually looking to get myself another piece for X-mas. I'm thinking a S&W 686 .357(7-shot) or a 12ga shotgun(though I don't know muchabout them)

if your looking for a home protection weapon as a shotgun your gonna have to find one with a shorter barrel than most go check out your local pawn shop seewhat there selection looks like mine has a ton of shottys and handguns

please. Sigs are nice BUT bulky, overpriced and in no way a superior gun o any of the other top notch options out there. I would gladly carry one if it weregifted to me, but by no means would I invest in one.

got this from a sig vs glock discussion

As a Gunsmith... GLocks Are Garbage ,Go with the SIG !
( 2 frozen Glocks Blew apart here in Alaska and Injured the shooters, and our State Troopers are constantly having to clear Jams with the .40 cal Glocks on the Shooting range here that I am the Rangemaster of !)
I shoot Colts,Kimbers, Springfield, Makarovs, Rugers, And an SP89 HK that all function way better even under adverse Conditions !
Rich
i mean you have your opinion BFO an i got mine. i wouldnt invest in a glock.

SIG MOTTO

RELIABILITY. FIRST TIME, EVERYTIME

Just for the record, my .40 glock has never jammed on me, and my boys .45 Sig was jamming on everyone who shot it (eliminating the obligatory "limpwristing" excuse.) the last time i used it.

Ive never frozen my glock though, maybe thats an issue. Although ive seen experiments where glock owners have tried everything possible to make the gun NOTfire, including freezing, and were unsuccessful.

On a sidenote, im no expert on the subject but id think a steel framed gun that got wet and had freezing\frosting issues, would be no more unreliable than apolymer framed gun. ( Kinda reminds me of that scene in Gladiator when Crown mentions how "the frost, sometimes it makes the blade stick". )

Glock 21 Torture Test (5 of 30) Shake in a bucket of sand

these vids are fun to watch. they are a series of 30 short vids showing various torture tests of a Glock 21. they put it through all kinds of conditions(plaster, sandblast, mud, shooting at it
laugh.gif
, dropping it out of a plane, etc) it still fired every single time after each test
