You're dumb if you think being able to write will ever be obsoleteThe slide rule is fascinating. I want to learn how to use it.
I fear the kids of today and tomorrow will be so reliant on technology, that they won't even know how to write their name with pen and paper.
You say that like the slide rule isn't tech itself. Progress is a good thing and wasting time to learn penmanship in an age where everything is typed electronically shouldn't be the goal for traditions sake
I'm sure that's what they also said about not knowing how to start a fireYou're dumb if you think being able to write will ever be obsoleteThe slide rule is fascinating. I want to learn how to use it.

Slide rule was technology, but it still implored you to use your brain to some extent. A calculator doesn't show you the process, just the results.
As far as handwriting, look how kids text message these days. Everyone uses short hand messaging, no one is actually spelling out words.
Imagine a world where the youth is so acclimated to using lol and all that they can't even spell laugh.

I always type everything out
It hurts my head to read the abbreviations.
It doesn't make sense to do abbreviations when we have full keyboards at our fingertips

Yea because starting a fire is the same as documenting informationI'm sure that's what they also said about not knowing how to start a fireYou're dumb if you think being able to write will ever be obsoleteThe slide rule is fascinating. I want to learn how to use it.

Starting a fire used to be an essential skill that has become non essential due to advances in tech. Penmanship can easily go that same route with the rising availability of tablets and other portable smart devices. Other than the application of art, it wouldn't make sense to teach penmanship to the youth if all they do is type on a keyboard or on a screen whenever something needs to be recorded. Penmanship has only been a hindrance to record keeping when compared to typing as it is uniform and legible. In addition, talking about shorthand like "lol" is a moot point because it is possible to write professionally as well as colloquially in any setting. It is not the method of conveyance but the user that decides how the message is written. The troglodyte in you is saying that I'm absurd for seeing how this could progress but you should give my point of view an honest look before you call it stupid and fail to see the parallels of this discussion all around you.Yea because starting a fire is the same as documenting informationI'm sure that's what they also said about not knowing how to start a fireYou're dumb if you think being able to write will ever be obsoleteThe slide rule is fascinating.
