Houston Rockets Thread - Preseason vs Spurs (Friday)

Harden needs to do something man. Terry doing more work trying to get the ball then harden and he's still only getting single coverage.

Winnable game, but damn just not enough. Can't really even be mad about losing that one, other than not having Dwight.

The game was right there man for the taking... Twice. Josh Smith was in lala land man and injured Dwight smh.

If we took this game it would of been huge.

One thing I kept saying. Can't have mental lapses. Can't let them go on runs like they have every single time we've played them. 25-6 run to end the half. Went in down by 3. Second half was even for the most part with both teams going on mini runs every now and then. End the game losing by 4.

That bs *** 5 or 6 minutes cost us the game. No ****** way in hell can you blow a 16 point lead in that much time and still deserve to win the game.

poor 2nd quarter
not enough plays by terry/smith/jones
harden not getting foul calls really upsets me. it's silly to me to acknowledge it's a foul, but the refs aren't going to call it.

steph got his, and we made it tough on him late. can't live with draymond and barnes shoot 50% and livingston torch us.

Terry and TJones' play, along with a couple Josh Smith blunders....Jesus Christ this game could have been stolen :{ Very good game from a spectator standpoint, but this loss sucks knowing we could have got a W. Gotta be ready next Thursday. Gotta forget about this game real quick and re-up.

This guy TJones can't hit a bucket point blank range. A lot of defensive lapses, but still a lot of good things to take away.

McHale should play Capela more, man. We're not going to throw it to Clint in the post. With him in the game, it's high screen and rolls with James. Rockets seemed at their best running the pick and rolls.

Steph played a great game, but I think the Rockets can hang with this squad. Series doesn't start until a road team gets a W. Let's see what happens

Close game where no one expected his from Houston. Livingston, Barnes, and Green showed out and if they beat us, I'm fine with it. Too many turnovers and blown assignments leading to crucial wide open layups, but a bunch due to blown calls/moving screens. Harden's stretch in the 4th would have been one for the ages of he could have pulled off the win, but the refs weren't helping the situation at all.

Bum Draymond and his "slipping" or shall we say flopping into Ariza then holding him down. WTF was that man. Right in front of the ref also. And they replayed it and nothing. Same thing would happen to Dwight against the Clippers and it'd be a T or flagrant. No way you can replay that to me and say that wasn't intentional.

Close game and that leads to a wide open layup by Curry. Come on. Wouldn't have minded more Capella though. Both teams played great.

Rockets even it up 1-1 come Thursday.

Yeah man Capella played well while he was in, but one thing no one's mentioned is all the ************ offensive rebounds they got. So many second chance points when we finally got them to miss. I think the refs were kind of letting them play for the most part, but you've got steph out there pushing off hard as **** on two plays in a row to get open threes. Then the Warriors are holding onto the us when we're going around the screens to contest a shot.

At the end of the day, it's only one game, but this was a great chance to steal a game 1 on the road.

Watching the highlights man. We just had so much energy the first 17 minutes of the game. Playing great defense and running in transition on both sides. That **** all went away out of nowhere. Never came back until the last 60 seconds when they've got to play all out to have a chance to come back. Same **** they had to do when they were down 19 in game 6. Just play with that effort for 48 minutes for gods sake.

i feel like the strategy to beat these guys is pretty simple. even more confident we could if we dialed it in now that the game is over. not super optimistic McHale dials it in based on his lineups/management/play calling this game. Similarly, I expect Kerr to correct the Warrior mistakes faster than McHale. I double down on my "big lineup" sentiment after this game too.

James Harden can pass or score whenever he wants. The passive part early was great considering he wasnt getting foul calls, regardless of who we're saying is guarding him. No need to be aggressive and not get the foul call when you can get others easy shots. That's how you get those guys going. Also, it made the Warriors start guarding him straight up. He recognized it, and went into attack mode. Dude played lights out. I hope we can keep that going

Until he got hurt Memphis had Allen guarding..........................Klay Thompson.

he was assigned klay primarily (Mike Conley was is a former all NBA defender) and got plenty of defensive work against.........................Stephen Curry

Harden played how we want him to play. Testing out the defense and feeling the pace of play, then attack mode.

Series is reminiscent of the LAC series. Let Curry get his and control the role players. We were not able to contain Livingston, Barnes, and Green. We got the L but a valiant effort and I feel we learned a lot from this game as far as game planning and bringing it for 48 mins.

But I could do with less Dwight Post Ups. Just want him on that pick and roll, lob, and offensive board put backs.

If Klay Thompson is struggling we have a shot to win the series.

15 pts on 18 shots.

Again, if we're gonna have a shot to win this series we have to slow down Klay Thompson.

Let Curry get his and control the role players.

I swear I'm starting to cringe every time i see this. and for all 27 of those jet minutes. and all 15 of those Prigioni minutes.

But I could do with less Dwight Post Ups. Just want him on that pick and roll, lob, and offensive board put backs.

Definitely. Only time it makes sense is when he has a blatantly obvious mismatch. like off a switch or something.

also, why the hell did we keep attacking Draymond Green in iso?!

I mean I think either way Curry is going to get at least his 24/7 no matter who is guarding him. He got open for WIDE open 3s and layups due to some obvious moving screens but that's another topic. But I mean if we rotate and play 48mins of hustle basketball we can win. We just have to keep up the intensity.

If warriors go small ball with green at the 5 I think rockets should/may counter with Capella at the 5. He's proven quick enough to stay and contest Currys shots if needed and should/would feast on the boards.

Even after blowing that huge lead, we still had a shot at the end. Maybe if we take a couple of those offensive rebounds away from them it's enough to win that game.

The thing with letting steph get his 24 and 7 is that he can easily get more than that. His shot is so money. Easily can turn into 35 or 40+. At that point he's scored enough for himself and enough for another guy as well.
