Houston Rockets Thread - Preseason vs Spurs (Friday)

Yea the coaching has been a mismatch but there is clear personnel issues with this team.

Basically a meltdown all around. In the back of my mind I was hoping the Spurs won that series cause even though we split with LAC, I just didn't like what they could bring from an athletic standpoint. Never did I imagine multiple guys would be underwhelming for us, along with Austin Rivets being a major factor, along with Redick and Crawford just going off.

That Brewer dunk, or nondunk....

But lack of effort/desire again from what it looked like.

Can we channel our inner "Clutch City" and bring it back? 3-1 against PHX also but those games weren't decided like these loses.

One game at a time. Tuesday can't come sooner.

The lack of effort is atrocious, and even more when you feel like everything is going against you. Missing layups and going 1 and done down the court, along with getting hammered yet drawing no fouls, while the Clips seem to shoot 95%, grab every board, and get every whistle. It's a confidence killer.

Looking at the roster for next year:

Howard, Harden, Ariza, Prig, Jones, DMo, Capela, Dorsey and Nick Johnson are all under contract for next year

C: Howard, Capela, Dorsey
PF: Jones, Dmo
SF: Ariza
SG: Harden
PG: Prig, Johnson

Paps has 4.8 million dollar team option. I have to imagine we let him go because that's a lot of money to give a guy who couldn't get on the court or we pick him to use him in a trade.

Brewer has a 4.9 million dollar player option. I'd assume he would opt out of that, but considering Ariza is only making 8 million, i'm not sure how much money he could really make, so i could see him coming back for not much more than 4.9.

Bev has a 1.1 million dollar qualifying option. I can't imagine he'd accept that when offered, so he's likely going to become a restricted free agent. Who knows if someone will offer a deal we won't to touch. However, since we don't another PG worth a ****, he'll be back unless we can make a deal for someone.

McDaniels has a 1 million dollar qualifying option.

Josh Smith and Terry are free agents

1. We need a point guard. We still needed a point guard even when Bev was health :lol

2. I hope we just let Smith go. He's talented, but he's a boneheaded play waiting to happen. He's way more of a mental ****** than Dwight will ever be.

3. We need another player, at any position, that can take the scoring burden off Harden. A lot of guys on the roster are capable of having a good night, but we need someone night in who is a reliable second option.

4. I said it when it happened, extending McHale when the Rockets did was so stupid. He might not be the worst coach ever, but he sure as hell doesn't give us anything a coach does. The writing is on the wall that he needs to go, but will the franchise just eat that money?

slight reach imo. We've been doing this for 2 seasons now. First it was the need of a 4 to guard LMA who was torching us. Now everybody begging for an upgrade at PG. We might as well hope to upgrade a position every year until we have the entire starting 5 WC All Star team.

Our roster is too deep with steal contracts to be complaining about personnel. We need a different/better coach/system. Same **** since last season, but it's taking us getting mopped for people to see it.

PREACH!!! There is enough talent on this team to win a title. I can't think of one NBA team that has more collective talent than the rockets. 1 bonafide star and a borderline superstar in the L plus almost two deep at every position with quality role players. You can win a title with that, or at least show some fight in the second round.

Dudes literally don't want to hear anything about the coaching :lol
or should I say there's a camp that don't. ha

Crazy to me, it's been obvious (in the regular season and playoffs) for 2 years now.

Bruh it's a total failure from all parts.

No coach is gonna stop a curb stomping if the players don't show up. McHale, JVG, Adelman, Pop, Phil any coach.

You might be able to say that for a game, but not an entire series. an entire playoffs really. and, you're disrespecting a lot of coaches out there. probably naming coaches that have literally never taken Ls of this magnitude in the playoffs.

I'm not just talking one game either, Smith, Brewer, Jones & Ariza have been terrible all series. Our rotational PFs are borderline unplayable right now.

All of this talent yall claim we have is fine & dandy provided they show up over the course of a series. But none of those guys are doing anything right now and we get the result we are getting. No level of coaching whether we have a JV coach or Red Auerbach is going to overcome players not showing up for a series.

That's all I was saying...

This guy makes some dope highlight vids

, I like D-Mo and terrance Jones along with some of the others... y'all just have to retool

His choice of music in these vids are GOAT

McHale started the hacking strategy with Capela, and guy who is actually useful, with 4 early fouls. THEN he brought Dorsey in, the most useless guy on the team, for about 20 seconds, had him sit down, then mostly used K-Pap to hack, another guy could have been useful in the series beforehand. Unless somebody can prove assistant coaches made that decision, he needs to be out of here. This is McHale since Minnesota, whether he has superstars or not. Multiple players not showing up is an anomaly, but his terrible coaching is consistent.

Bro...when good/great players don't show up consistently...that's coaching. Players play...it's up to the coach to put them in position to use their talents in a manner that'll get wins. Otherwise you get the Houston Rockets.

Just look at how Mchale is playing the high pick and roll...he's got James Harden switching on to Blake Griffin from the foul line down...Mchale thinks JAMES HARDEN can defend Blake Griffin in the paint!!!!! Which leaves Dwight on a island after Blake blows by James to pick up fouls or you get CP3/JCrossover on the perimeter vs. T Jones or Josh...I mean WTF?! You wouldn't do that on NBA 2k. This is basic stuff.

Don't even get me started on going to hack a Deandre in the first quarter.

More players is not the answer...#1 you aren't going to get every player you "need" and #2...Every team has weaknesses personnel wise, at the end of the day you can't assemble an all-star team to sure up every position., but Morey has done a damn good job assembling talent... on paper the Rockets match up with any team in this league.

Agreed that Prigs and Jet need to take a seat on the bench.

You need your 5 best players on the court, and don't need to play a point guard with Jimmy on the floor.

To that point, everything needs to run through Jimmy. I want to see him be more aggressive and take over the game tonight.

whats crazy is im pretty sure multiple guys in this thread were throwing the Harden at the 1 on offense (brew/ariza defend the 1 on D) talks out there as soon as we got Brewer. (definitely myself). Then when Bev took that slight turn to have marginally better 3 point shooting volume and fell of slightly with his defensive consistency, the talks of that lineup grew. then through the season, I heard it more.

I came to the realization that this team is a slightly updated version of the tmac Yao rockets. 2 stars, and a bunch of specialists who can't create for themselves and only value is attributed to the stars.

Well we clearly don't match up with this because they've been beating us like a drum for 3 seasons now.

Harden can't guard Blake but guess what, our PFs can't either. We're putting our best offensive threat on CP3 on defense because our PGs can't guard him.

Right now the flaws outweighs the overall talent of the team.

Read a tweet last of somebody basically saying "how do you feel about Parsons for Brewer/Smith now??". If you have to ask that question a full year and postseason later, your L is already taken. That's just like Rick Fox's " we dodged a bullet" tweet in reference to Dwight. You don't dodge a bullet with Dwight having two very good post seasons as a Rocket along with increased team success, while your former team is bottoming out with an injured washed former great eating up your cap space, with delusions of having every superstar play with you.

Had some people bail on tickets. Never buying tickets for people again lol.

2 tickets
Section 430 Row 3

Toyota center prices were 107 after fees. Willing to sell for $80/ticket

PM me if interested bros.

i'm secretly hoping the demand plummets and i can watch us get dragged courtside so i can yell obscene things at our guys

Same here but I'm a clips fan so I'm hoping I can watch Austin Rivers cook live.

People are going to be unloading tickets last minute for cheap.

Especially resellers who were hoping for a big demand. They're gonna take a beating :x

There's no reason for me to think that the Rockets can tie this series up and battle in a game 7.

Here's to hoping that actually happens....

I can't even get myself hopeful. It'd be one thing if we were able to at least somewhat compete in these games, but we've just been getting bent over all series. I had to turn the game off last time and I don't feel too optimistic about making it through the one tomorrow night either.

I swear I feel like I want them to win more than they do.
