Live in Los Angeles, but know its going to be expensive. You are looking at 1500+ min monthly payments for a 2 bedroom apartment.

I would suggest looking for apartments in cheaper places 10-15 minutes away from Hollywood in the Valley specifically places like Van Nuys or possibly Chatsworth.
we've definitely been looking more into some of the surrounding areas...we don't know Cali at all tho, so it's hard to narrow down exactly where we want to stay...we just don't want to end up and a crime infested neighborhood or anything like that...any suggestions on some spots we should be looking???
are you black or mexican? and yes, it does kind of matter out here. not all crazy, but i dont want to tell you neighborhoods where all your neighbors speak spanish and look at you funny.

but places like:
Gardena
Lomita
Torrance
Harbor City
Culver City
Lakewood
Inglewood

have good areas, that are on the cheaper side.
ESPECIALLY CULVER CITY
when i was looking to move out, me and my girl found nice places for cheap, just make sure you find out about local gangs etc. i mean gangs are everywhere in LA, but you dont want to move to an area where they are heavily active you know? like i live in san pedro, and its a small town, and we have a bunch of gangs, but the gangs know each other, so they only every mess with each other, not random people. if that makes sense.

also, gangs arent like in movies, but i do reccomend finding out about local sets and stuff, just to know. its good to be informed, you feel me?

Move to LA.

Go to Vegas for a max 3 day vacation and for bachelor party's.

Vegas seriously after 2 or 3 days gets extremely BORING as hell. After your all partied out or have spent whatever amount of money you brought with you on booze, gambling, strippers, prostitutes, drugs, and food you will quickly realize how not fun and what a waste of money you just burned on yourself for a quick few thrills.

My sister has been living out there for 3 years now because her husband is going to medical school out there and she absolutely HATES living out there and wants to get back to Cali ASAP when my brother in law is done with medical school.

Man don't worry about that dude you'll be alright. Like meeks said just be aware of where you want to stay. Also, adding to the list of cities Meeks gave you, norwalk, cerritos, and downey are also pretty good cities to live. You should be able to find a affordable apartment to stay at. Also, those cities hardly have any gangs. However, most cities have there good sides and there bad sides.

I second the move to Culver City. It is basically of suburb of LA that is located in the middle of LA, i guess thats the best way to explain it. I used to work in Culver City and it is a very safe place. I never say gang members around, let alone people looking for trouble. You can be in Hollywood in 10-15 mins, same goes w/ the beach.

As mentioned Vegas is great for a couple of days, but the place is an absolute money pit. Your rent may be cheaper but you will blow money at casinos, strip clubs, etc. no matter how hard you try not too. While i've never lived in Vegas (just vacays) I currently live in AZ for school, and let me tell you summers in the desert are a living hell.

Good luck in your move man!

Culver City is expensive as hell. You are looking at 2000 for a 2 bedroom. To say you dont want to live in gang neighborhood in LA is to say you dont want to live in Los Angeles.
