I didn't even know the specter was an infinity stone or remember that Thanos gave it to Loki. Dude had 2 infinity stones and he currently has none.

I think they called it the orb because the orb was the case. Not everyone in the movie even knew what was in the orb

Is the gauntlet itself in Odin's vault or does Thanos already have that?

It was in the vault in Asgard last we saw but since that is Lokis domain now, both the Tesseract and Gauntlet could be in Thanos' possession soon.

It could be the end credit scene where Loki turns both over to Thanos.
Really not sure where they are going with Thor 3, plenty are speculating Surtur so they might be busy dealing with that and creating that new world.
Even though it was denied, I still see Thanos making a cameo in AoU so I'd say that's the next time we see him.

Idk. Having him show up in a Ultron centered story is a bit of a stretch. I'm gonna run with that Thanos acronym. I belive if he'll show up in Thor, and pop up in Doctor Strange for the reality gem, and he'll come down in A3 to look for the last gem. I don't think he'll have them all in A3.

Depending on whether or not Collector is working for him he could have up to three. (soul and reality from Collector). Though I doubt collector is working for thanos or Nebula and Ronan would've been in the know that the Orb was coming to him anyway.
Loki is likely working with him so that's the space gem and the gauntlet
Wow, This looks way better than the ones they used in the movie and 10,000x better than the comic version

Avengers 1 was team/Loki centered and the cameo took nothing away from it.
I am not saying his role is going to be the same as it was in GotG but a brief cameo in the end that shows the Earths mightiest heroes are weakened and vulnerable after they dealt with Ultron and that he is ready to move on to Earth, maybe gathering an army or henchmen like he had in the Infinity Arc. Show a panning out shot and you just see his army ready to invade Earth.
Or just show Thanos in the end credit wielding the gauntlet minus the gems then that smirk again.
I just wouldn't be surprised to see Thanos in a cameo in AoU.
