Going to India for a week, what should I expect???

Mumbai is fun man. Check out Juhu Beach, Santa Cruz West, Bandra, Malabar Hill areas of the city if you're looking to step away from the poverty. Usually the west side of every section of the city are the higher end. Hit up the Marriot (seriously) if you wanna party with the hot rich girls in the city. Restaurants aren't too expensive but partying will set you back about as much as it would in NY. You should've probably already started your Malaria medication if you're going. Don't eat street meats but definitely try a Frankie. You can get EXCELLENT clothing tailored to fit within the week you're there so if you want to grab clothes make sure you check it out. It's pretty cheap and the quality is amazing. Other than that, just enjoy. 

Everything Norm said is on the money. Some other suggestions I have are to go for drinks at the Aer rooftop bar at the 4 Seasons Hotel, if it's in your budget, I'd eat at Wasabi Restaurant at the Taj Hotel, and go for walks on Carter Road and Bandra bandstand. I've never actually been to Mumbai, but I've been doing some research so that I can hopefully go next summer.

Dude, Bombay is what the British used to call Mumbai back when they ruled India

After the British left India, many people still called Mumbai Bombay, but it wasn't until recently where the government decided to rename Bombay to Mumbai again, because traditionally that's the name of the city.

You do know that there are many dark Middle Eastern people and many light skin Indian people right? Based on what you just posted, my Indian family are all from the Middle East, and my Middle Eastern friends/cousins are all from India. By the way, there actually ARE many similarities. Hell when my cousins got married (Indian girl, Persian guy) both their families were pretty much like "Whatever, close enough." Which was a far different reaction from when my mom married a European guy

skin color != facial features distinct to certain regions. That's like me saying, eastern africans look like western africans when it's far from the truth. Same can be said for japanese and chinese citizens. Both asian, similar skin color, different symmetrical facial structures. Failing to see the unique faicial features of peoples of certain regions seems rather uneducated, specially when the basis of your assumptions is skin color.

also, india is very rich with such a diverse and huge amount of architechture from the different rulers. I would love to visit some of the temples and other important architechtual cites there. However, it does kinda put you off with all the pre-requisetes you need to visit the country as well as the sanitazion, or lack there of in many parts of india.

Question for my Indian brethern. I have a friend who is indian (but looks mexican) and his parents are from north india. Is north india much more developed than south india? He said a lot of north indians don't associate themselves with south indians due to the major differrences in culture, etc. Also, is there a new city that was recently built there? Supposed to be big and super expensive. forget the name.

Why would you assume I don't know the difference? Where did I say it was the same? I simply said I like middle eastern women not Indian or Japaneses but middle eastern. Then I said I liked Indian food over all other types. After that I said I would love find middle eastern girl that can cook Indian and any common person would've been able to comprehend that I understood it was two different cultures. It's not a impossible thing anyone can pickup cooking. You're acting as if someone can't cook different types of foods from different regions. I mean dude did post a bunch of white skin Middle Eastern people and dark skin Indian people. I agree with you, I was just responding to what dude was implying.

And to answer your question, all major parts of India are developed and underdeveloped at the same time. Bangalore is in the south, and it's pretty developed, especially due to all the Indian and foreign engineers that work there.

The problem with India is that there has always been potential for the country to be clean, modern, and attractive to visitors but there's far too much corruption and just that "I don't give a @#$% about anyone else" mentality that results in high rises located right next to the slums and heaps of trash. Why do you think it smells bad there? Rich people there eat and throw their @#$% on the street because they're so damn lazy, resulting in piles of garbage everywhere . People openly urinate on public property because they're too lazy to find a bathroom. New homes for the well-off are built where poor people live, and those poor people are basically thrown out into the street. They couldn't care less if the entire city smells like sewage and homelessness is rampant as long as they go back to their condos with air conditioning and 5 servants. They want to be recognized as a first world country but that third world mentality is too ingrained into the people

Oh and good luck getting the government to try to make things better If you think American politicians are bad, you haven't met these guys before

Call ducktales if you want, but an acquaintance of mine visited Abu Dabi was apparently "kidnapped" by a sheikh she met on the plane for a few days. She said that he invited her over for some party he was throwing; it was an actual party, but he made sure his security didn't let her leave the house for almost 3 days. He said that if she said anything, he had the resources to find her and make sure she was never seen by anyone ever again.

Of course, there's a chance that this girl was offered a good amount of money to stay there, and she just made this up to save face Just telling you what she told me

That wasn't so much aimed at you as much as to be out there for people in general. I still find it  weird that you want a middle eastern chick that can cook Indian food. If you are as educated about India as you say, that's just super random. Like me saying I want a Brazilian chick that can cook Spanish food. But whatever.

I know this, but skin color aside, there are some distinct facial feature differences that I wanted to show as well. I'm Indian and I noticed how you can tell us apart from other folks is usually the eyes. Now that's pretty subtle, and people begin to start being able to distinguish from eyes over time and experience. So I just wanted to make a very basic distinction for people here- that on average people in India have darker skin and darker eyes and no one really wears burqas lol, and some middle eastern people look white.  And that bottom girl looks as Indian as LeBron looks John Mayer. How could anyone remotely mistake her for Indian?
