For the NTer's in school, how many hours do you study when before a big test?

I don't. I slept 4hrs a day last week for my exam block. And the 10-12hrs a day I study isnt just before exams, there's no such thing as cramming in school. In a week I probably have to retain more information than most people have to in a whole semester. It's like drinking out a firehose and it keeps getting progessively more difficult. Last year was OD but I find myself thinking it was a cakewalk compared to this year. I did really well my first 2 exams blocks, and they had to ruin my comfort by adding another OD difficult class to the mix (pathophysiology). On top of the ridiculous amount of new material I need to learn this year I have to review last year's material cause I have the boards coming up in June of next year.  There's a reason why it seems like I'm on NT 24/7 I take frequent breaks from reading to post on NT cause it keeps me sane.

Serious question..Do the people that study like crazy either

A)do it because you barely show up to class so you gotta learn the info on your own

or

B) Just have bad memory so you gotta study a lot to soak in the information?

Could be neither but I would assume it could be one of these options..Or maybe you guys just go to great colleges which require more knowledge to do well.

I have an amazing memory. I don't go to class, but while my classmates are in class I read the textbook and the lecture slides either way we're both awake getting access to the information. With that said going to class does nothing for me. medical schools are starting to put less and less value on class time. It's way too much information for anyone to teach you in 2hrs you still have to read it for yourself. I just skip the middle man so to speak. In class you get the lecture powerpoints presented to you, I just read the #$#@ for myself. There is one class that just started that I show up to because its pretty difficult and the professor has no notes.

I sit in class and listen without taking notes. I rarely do the homework since it's only 5% of the grade. I down a beer the morning of the test and wing it. Worked so far.

exactly.  i have all my lecture slides online, so i go over them before the scheduled class and if i cant figure it out on my own i will show up but usually i dont have to go to class.  the only classes i attend regularly are my labs and the day before exams.

In college I use to study about 3-5 hours a day starting about 3 days before an exam

Depends.

If it's a science course,  it can be anywhere from 5 hrs a day starting a week before.

If it's anything else, it could be just 3 hrs the day before and review before the exam.

OP if you are hoping this thread will give you some insight into how to study and for how long, you're wrong.

Everyone is different.  And there is no set way to study.  Studying isn't some abstract thing; it's reading, writing, listening, etc.  Use all your senses to get the information in your head.  E.g. If you're getting bored and find it difficult to focus, make an outline as you read.  If you are getting really tired, watch a video related to the topic.

4+3+2+1 = 10. Unless you didn't actually study, then that's 9.

I could take anywhere from 4 hours to 24 hours to study. Depends on how big the test is. The class I'm studying the hardest in is one that's notorious for preventing seniors from graduating.

On Average 2-4 hours 3 or so days before an exam.
If it was an exam that I thought I had a chance of beasting and or my overall grade in the class depended on it, 5-8 hours.
