This is why I never take public transportation in the US. If my job needs me to take it, I'm not doing it. I'd rather drive in traffic or pay for Lyft than share trains/buses with these psychopaths and fiends
Not in NYC, but here in the Bay you'll also ALWAYS have one or two deranged characters on BART/MUNI that make everyone else on the train feel uncomfortable/unsafe

yup...riding the tube in london i felt safe at all times of the night at any stop

Yup, never had any bad experiences on the tube or any Western/Southern European trains for that matter. Also love East Asian train systems; everyone behaves properly and cleanly on there
On BART and the NYC subway, I've seen far too many fiends, people fighting, human @#$@ and piss, yelling on the phone, yelling at passengers, needles, cans of beer, food, bloody bandages...I could keep going. There's no way you can get me to sit on any of those disgusting seats.
