FOOD THREAD VOL. GRUB LIFE

@nawghtyhare I'm not into sweet breakfast
Did the French start this logic of consuming "junk food" for breakfast?

I have always found it wild that some of the foods we consider breakfast foods are horrible for us. Cereals, pancakes, waffles, pastries, sugar yogurts. Wild.

Not sure how often folks eat those things, not cereal because we know folks consume that daily, but that is an "Out of town/Weekend" type of indulgence for me.

Fiber is important in a balanced diet too, but in most forms it tastes like cardboard. The breakfast sweets are welcome over here

Cardboard? Some great sources of fiber include avocados, apples, bananas, carrots, strawberries, raspberries, mangos, & I think oranges have fiber to.

When I get salads while at work from Harris Teeter, I had some chick peas & beets which I think also have fiber.

Raw fruits and vegetables are cool. Also good with with syrups, nectars and dressings. Wheat Pancakes and French toasts? Delicious with whipped cream and candies nuts.

I just don’t have a sweet tooth
I don’t do donuts I don’t do desserts don’t do syrups, candy’s sweet stuff, powdered sugars, none of it! I’m the complete opposite, I like spicy food , steaks , martinis and cigars!

Days off we do brunch today at LOngman & Eagle in Chicago

First pic is mine, Duck Egg Hash, with duck confit and Truffle aioli

Elote Bendict with corn cakes and sour cream lime hollandaise side of potatoes

The truffle was a bit overwhelming but that was my doing since i mixed everything together lol

The corncakes and her side of potatoes were crazy good

Funny thing about beets, pickled beets in particular. Went to catholic elementary school & every Thursday, one of the sides was 2-3 slices or pickled beets. Had a mean teacher named sister carla that used to carry around yard stick all the time to discipline kids. What she did should've been illegal then & certainly illegal now. She demanded that kids eat everything they had for their lunch bcs of the starving children all over the world & if you didn't, WACK!

I got so many beatings for not eating the pickled beets & then be forced to eat them... Years later when I was like 19-20 yrs old, I went to Easter mass at the Church at that school & saw her ole *** walking with a walker. She was old then & she was really old at that time. On Easter Sunday, I had to fight the urge to go over there & not kick out the walker out from under her.:evil::lol:

To this day the smell of pickled beets still reminds me of her & 3rd-4th grade. I still see that b****'s face in my head too. It wasn't until about 2-3 yrs back that I started eating beets here & there with salad. Had a really good beet almond shaves salad with some arugula & other greens with a really good raspberry vinaigrette.

It's amazing the kind of stories food can illicit.

I never do shakes
Don’t like sweets
Not liking sweets is one hell of a "taste."

You probably save so many calories not indulging in foolishness.

But do you "make up for it" in other ways? Alcohol. Fattening food?

What are you food vices?

French toast and waffles nutritious  dessert for breakfast is a no go for me, might as well eat a cake

A traditional waffle by itself isn't junk food. Or French Toast. It's all the extra syrup, butter, powdered sugar and all that that makes it junk food.
