Filipino Culture Thread

Went down the rabbit hole of these kind of videos and I need to step my tagalog speaking game up.

They've come a long way from Travis:lol:

It’s really fascinating to see and hear other nationalities pick up the language. If you close your eyes, you can pick out some sort of Visayan accent on top of her Tagalog. Cool stuff!

I've been living here for a decade now and it's not shocking anymore to hear white dudes or Koreans speaking bisaya. My father in law is German and he mixes tagalog and bisaya talking to the locals.

Only Travis we acknowledge.

The way he says chicken cracks me up every single time

Jollibee always so OA with their ads 😭😭

Ngl, THAT escalated quickly. Relatable to some degree tho lol. I grew up in a similar situation because my mom was the first one to emigrate to the US so she was absent for the most part of my childhood. We’re all still close with our own “Nanay” back in the Philippines.

^ what the anchor said about Hawai’i and culture is true

Cultures are celebrated and talked about and mentioned a lot in the islands, and it’s not in a negative way. People take pride in being Portuguese or Filipino or Hawaiian and such.

question

I grew up with my family mostly eating with our hands. I would eat with my hands at home and had to be taught to use a fork and spoon because not everyone is like that.

I was with some other Filipino friends recently and we were having Bonchon Korean chicken wings. I had a side of rice and I would eat my wings and eat my rice with my hands. (One of the only meals I do this with these days truthfully)

My friends didn’t - they put their wings down and ate their rice with a fork or spoon.

They said that some Filipinos see eating with the hands as a “redneck” Filipino thing or hillbilly type thing. It’s the first I’m hearing of this. Anyone else know about this? I always thought eating with your hands was normal / acceptable in most Filipino households, probably not while you’re out though.
