Two concerns... surviving that initial impact and then escaping that fire.
Had he been too injured from that impact to get out on his own, it would have been much, much worse.

Yea 10 years ago it's almost certain that would've been fatal...

Credit to all the engineers and the FIA for the advances in car safety that allowed such a horrific crash to even be survivable
